Hi I'm Nicky and my family (husband Colin and children Craig and Melissa) are owned by Betty (race name Off Course)a beautiful 4 year old black bitch. We started as walkers at Okendon kennels and going on greyhound walks witj kennel dogs. We've only had Betty for 6 weeks and she's a big part of our family. She's the first dog we've had and we'd recommend greyhounds to anyone. She's not spoilt but Colin cooks her scrambled egg and toast for breakfast and chicken for dinner!! - not quite up to Frank's standards yet! Love the new web site - well done Mark Nicky x

Hi, I'm Jac and our introduction to the world of greyhounds happened a few years ago when we were adopted by Tall Boy Mick - a big gentle giant of a greyhound. We had him for 5 years but he sadly passed away to cancer in 2006. After 3 months we decided that our house was just too empty so a trip to our local kennels gave us Blonde Boy Jay (Jay). He's grumpy, stubborn, bad-tempered around most other dogs but we love him to bits. After dog-sitting a friends female greyhound for 10 days we decided to get him a companion and happened across the sweet gentle Is You Is (Izzy). She was the sweetest girl you could ever meet but unfortunately was plagued with bad health and we took the reluctant decision to have her PTS late October. We'd already spoken about getting another girl and just before Xmas we met the gorgeous un-named blue girl who we all (Jay included) fell in love with. We've called her Kenzo - she's 18 mths old, never raced and a complete muppet ;D She's settled into our household really well - albeit eating a fair few things she shouldn't but she's a quick learner and just adorable so I think we might keep her

I'm Jackie and have always loved dogs. My first dog was a mongrel who my mother found abandoned as a pup when I was 16. After checking with the police and RSPCA we kept him and I named him Banquo - he'd come to us like a ghost in the night, so I wanted a ghostly name for him. I was studying Macbeth for English Literature O Level at the time and the name sprung to mind! My next dog was also an abandoned mongrel pup who I called Spike. Unfortunately I only had him for a couple of years because a major life change meant that I couldn't give him the time and attention that he needed so he went to live permanently with the neighbour that had been helping me look after him after my life change. Fast forward approximately 10 years to find my third mongrel, Jodie. She was three years old when I adopted her from Wood Green Animal Shelter and is still with me at 11, coming up 12. Jodie very kindly said it would be OK for Gilmour, a big white & blue greyhound to come and live with us about 16 months ago. We fell in love with Gilmour and greyhounds as a breed so deeply that just a few months later we decided to find another hound to bring into the family. Two weeks short of a year ago we adopted Kryssy (Ourgirl Krystyna, a beautiful fawn bitch) from the Bishops Stortford kennel. I love greyhounds and fully intend to adopt others in the future, but right now three dogs are the limit on our current living and financial circumstances. However, tonight is a £7m rollover...

Hi Nicky,
What do you mean "not quite up to Franks standards yet"? his standards are slipping this evening, he has got to settle for Dominos meat feast pizza!

We adopted George (Provost Marshall) two years and 3 months ago. He is 51/2 years old and a big baby. Although I haven't written on the forum much before I am a avid reader of it. My hubby Nigel and the 2 children (19 and 21) go 'oh no mum's on the doggy forum again!' The forum has given me so much information and I don't feel a complete twit when I said to Pat yesterday that I take the bones out of the pilchards in case George chokes on them . I have to say that everyone I have met on walks and through Pat have been very friendly, helpful and supportive. I will try and put a piccy of George on here. Trust me he may look like a girl but he is a boy! Lorraine Attachments:

Hi I've just joined this forum and my name is Paul and I have the most gorgeous Ockendon girl called Mo! We have been together for 4 years in February and have spent almost all that time together - she goes to work with me and we go to lots of 'greyhound awareness' events. Mo making herself at home in my new office: Mo promoting GH's as pets! Mo raising money to support GH's: Chilling at a picnic! Life has been so much better since adopting a GH!

Hi Nicky. Are you the woman I was talking to at the end of the Belhaus walk in early November? I was there with Elvis, and we'd just homed his sister, Lucy. I was speaking with a woman who was there with her daughter walking an Ockendon dog. They were both desperate to adopt one of their own. I really hope that that was you, and that your dream has come true!
Jac -- I'm sorry to hear about Izzy. I remember when you adopted her and had no idea that she'd been PTS. I am so so sorry for your loss.

Hi Whitbywoof did you get another grey today or wasn't it your turn? I have started buying 2 lottery tickets a week, if I win I am going to buy a secure field in south Essex so folks can take their greys there and let them off the lead. Yvonne

Hi bronwenc yes I am that person on the Belhaus walk and yes we did get to adopt the greyhound we had with us that day. She is now Betty and absolutely wonderful, a real joy to have. Hope to meet you again soon and I'll explain how it all came to happen. Yvonne - what a great idea. Hope you win Nicky
