Lily had 4 teeth out on Wednesday so I took her back this morning for her post op check up.
Things didn't get off to a good start, no parking spaces available on the forecourt and none on the road. Not a problem, so I went round to the empty car park at the rear. Walked round to the side exit - gate locked. Not to be deterred went to the disabled entrance, rang the bell. Over a prolonged period rang it at least 3 times and, guess what, no one opened the door! By this time I was late for my appointment, so back in the car, and in view of what was to happen in the next 5 minutes I could have been stuck out the back with no assistance, and little chance of getting any.
Lily had a 'funny turn', in the consulting room, going all shaky, front legs askew and head down at an angle and salivating. The nurse asked the vet to come and see Lily and while we waited for her to come it happened again for a longer time and affected her left eye which was glazed over.
The vet checked her over, said everything else normal but asked us to wait because she wanted to do some neurologial tests. She thinks the problem is periphery, not central nervous and because of Lily's age said it could be stimbulus syndronme (or is it stimulus). Came away with medication for Lily's left eye because the nerve in the eyelid could be damaged and she is unable to blink properly. Receptionist registered an E claim with Pet Plan on my behalf - think this could be expensive.
Now back home, Lily has just finished her dentastix and is now stretched out on the bed with not a care in the world. Going back on Monday for a check up

Thank you Pat and Fred for your good wishes for Lily.
When the vet started talking about MRI scans and leaving her at the out of hours clinic to be monitored all sorts of thoughts went through my head. Today I have calmed down and seeing things more clearly. The vet has stopped all meds that she came home with on Wednesday.
I decided to note down every time Lily 'takes a turn'. Yesterday she had 3 attacks at 3 hours and 10 minutes between 2 and 3. Today she has had 4 attacks at 4,3 and 3 hourly intervals. They last about a minute and after a pat on the back she is back to normal. When she had the last one I just asked her if she was ok and she carried on as normal.
Lily looks a picture of health. is eating well and all bodily functions working normally.
Back to the vets tomorrow for a check up.
We gave Lily's friend Chico a haircut today, not only does he look smaller but his colour has changed. I was a bit worried she might not recognise him. Needn't have worried - they are snuggled up together on the futon.

I was very afraid when you described her symptoms because it sounded like the complications our old girl Poppy had after her stroke but then again, I thought the same when my friend's labrador had the same symptoms and that turned out to be "vestibular syndrome" - something to do with the middle/inner ear and she's fine now!
Hoping that Lily recovers soon and that it was just one of those things sent to worry greyhound mums....

Thank you all for your good wishes. Thank you Sue the Jam for the info which I looked up.
Canine vestibular disease affects the body’s balance systems. There are two forms of the condition, peripheral vestibular disease which is the more common, and central vestibular disease. Peripheral vestibular disease results from damage to the nerves of the inner ear that can be caused by infection, overzealous cleaning of the ears, trauma, stroke, tumors, certain drugs and other conditions. Symptoms of the condition including head tilting, loss of balance, stumbling, falling, abnormal eye movements, nausea and vomiting.
Lily has these symptoms although she has not been sick.
However, when the vet looked in her ear she said there was an inflamed nerve area and she had previously mentioned peripheral and not central nervous sustem. I'm definitely feeling more upbeat.
We are just going for a short walk round the block, she can't wait to go out.

Lily was back at the vets yesterday evening'
She went out in the garden at 6.23 am, seemed ok but when she came back just managed to catch her before she toppled over. Less than 30 seconds later she was right as rain.
When I came back from morning school run, noticed blood on her left hock. Didn't worry me unduly because a few days previous she had chewed off her dew claw. When I looked more closely saw a wound about the size of a 5p piece on the front of her leg. Other dogs were crated, no sign of blood anywhere else'.
Vet shaved around the wound and bathed it. Has given her stronger anti biotics 2 x 1 1/2 tabs twice a day. Vet said her 'eye/profile' was much improved. Her legs look a state with3 areas now of stubble.
This morning she was as bright as a button, no probs until I took her with me on the school run this afternoon, which is only half of her normal walk. All ok until we were nearly back home. We crossed the road and she toppled over as she was walking over the kerb. A couple of strokes later she was fine.
Due back at Vets on Monday.

Hi Pat, so sorry to read your latest update on your beautiful Lily, I was really hoping that she would be better now, perhaps your vet will suggest that she has a CAT scan then at least you would know that her brain was ok. This is very expensive but if you are insured it would give you peace of mind. Give Lily a hug from me and my Lily. All best wishes Fred.

Sorry to hear that Lily still isn't right, hope the visit to the vets today will be able to shed more light on what's wrong, together with treatment. Fingers crossed.
