Problems with internet, hence no update.
Sunday evening Lily was very sick and I found her laying with regurgitated food all over her feet and up her legs- she was in a real state. I cleaned her up the best I could and later on when she was 'all dried out' I noticed dried pink powder on her chest and guessed it was the antibiotic she had with her dinner.
Monday was not a good day. Took Lily for a short walk round the block which ended up taking nearly an hour. Lily was totally not with it, jumping out of her skin when traffic passed by. She usually walks like a dream but she kept hanging back, hard to explain. Met people I knew who said she didn't look her normal self. I got really upset when we passed some people we know in passing on our walks, they took up all the pavement so poor old Lily and I had to walk in the road. 2 Chihuahuas and a West Highland Terrier let rip as we approached and poor Lily just stopped in her tracks looking so depressed and pathetic. The owners thought their dogs behaviour was funny, I told them she was unwell and what I thought of their attitude. They moved pretty smartly, the chihuauas owner then tried to engage in conversation but I just blanked him and carried on.
The sore on her leg was healing nicely until she started licking it again. She stayed on her duvet most of the day and only went out to go to toilet. I lost count of the 'funny' turns she had during the day.
Had to lift her into the car when we went to the vets, had to coax her out the other end.
Vet checked her over, everything ok. Told me to stop anti biotics prescribed 4 days previously. She came home with the largest collar I have seen (said I could use it for a standard lamp when Lily was finished with it). Lily was having none of it, in fact I took it back on Tuesday and got a refund.
Had a phone call from the vet last evening. She said she had been speaking about Lily with the consultant they use at the RVC. He confirmed her diagnosis of vestibular syndrome but said it was highly unlikely it was caused by the dental the previous week. He advised to continue monitoring and if no improvement to take some bloods, with MRI as a last resort.
As I write Lily is asleep. With all fingers crossed and touching wood, yesterday I saw an improvement which I hope will be sustained. She's got a new superking duvet which just engulfs her. I try and keep it over her leg as a distraction, it definitely looks better. Since stopping the antibiotics she is looking more like her old self, bright eyes, wet nose and shiny coat. I continue to give her the Lubrithal eye gel and there is definitely improvement there.
Yesterday her 'turns' were barely noticeable and as of this morning she has been normal.
Taking laptop in for a 'medical' later today so you may not hear from me for a few days.
Me and Lily thank you all for your good wishes.
