Sean is continuing his steady improvement, he's coming off pain killers tomorrow and on Friday the vet will remove and dispose of the ehite pad on his neck which is a 3 day slow release pain killer. He's enjoying all the extra food cocktail sausages, sausage rolls, white fish, beef burgers mixed in with his usual Harringtons. Not all at the same time LOL! I think he objects to only being allowed on the lead in the garden...wot no running around like a looney?

That's good news Mark. Hopefully the healing process should be complete before you go bankrupt buying all those treats!!

Here's the latest on Seans progress, he went to the vets this morning to have his white pain relief patch removed, our big brave boy hates the vets at the best of times so stood there shaking like a leaf, he is therefore now pain relief free and as long as he shows now sign of being in pain will be able to stay off tablets and the patch. He's got a couple more days of a non-pain relief related tablets to go and after that we'll see how things all go. The only fallout from the work carried out on him is that he is a little abnormal with his drinking and weeing. Sometimes he's as he was before the Op, and other times he drinks a huge amount and will do really long wees. Last night he wee'd on floor of one of the rooms in our house, we call it the AGA Room because it has an AGA in it. We didn't tell him off of course because this is not normal behaviour for him. So tonight I will sleep down stairs on the sofa, so if he needs to go out I can organise that. At the moment we can't say that the weeing issue means anything because the tablets are still clearing his system and some days (like today) he's not asked to go out to the loo at all, and has just been on our vets visit and when I took him on a really short walk. He's eating quite well and is munching his way through beef burgers, minced beef, Harringtons, lots of white fish etc. and there has been a small improvement in his weight, a bit hard to say how much yet, but I will weigh him at the vets on our next visit which will be this Friday, they want to keep an eye on the weeing issue, and I need to take a sample with me.
Poor old Sean has been through alot these last few weeks and he was in so much pain prior to his operation that we thought it might be his time. However he clearly had other ideas and battled through all that and is now gradually coming out the otherside.
We've pretty much maxed out our insurance now so can certainly ill afford any other big health issues because my income is so irregular at the moment being self employed. So if you haven't got insurance for your Greyhound(s) think about it seriously and if you have got insurance make sure you understand what they will and won't payout in any one insurance year, since with the big expensive jobs like Seans been through it's easy to eat through £3-4,000 in a few days.

Hi Mark, Glad things seem to be going well. Sounds like Sean is beginning to get back to his old self, and wanting to participate more, which is good news. The weeing problem could be tablet related, but I,ve noticed the weather is making the dogs uncomfortable at nights now, so they all are having their fleeces on, and are not wanting to get up at all now from their cosy beds, so could he be getting chilly? Dont know if you have the aga on yet. Also it could just be the increased fish diet, as that would digest down to water and make him wee more. Good that you are sleeping nearer to him as the last thing you want now, is him stressing out when he cant get outside. Poor boy, he has been through a lot, and must hate going back to the vets but he'll soon realise he's not staying there any more. Bless him, must be missing his lovely walks, but it will help him pick up his weight. Well done Mark. Do keep us informed.

The final chapter of Seans disc problem is now closed, and he's clear of anymore vet visits. He's going through the night without weeing (as he always has done unless unwell) and he's back to his usualy self. Tonight we went on our first normal length walk, which isn't a really long one, but he's not a big walker these days anyway. So all that's left now is for the fur to grow back and his weight to return to it's normal level of about 32-33Kg. I suspect the weight going back on may take a while since he's a difficult eater, but I'm sure he'll get there in the end. Thankfully this time wasn't his, and hopefully the insurance will pay out, otherwise we'll end up with £3500 or so on the credit card!
To add to all the recent challenges our glass main oven door decided to shatter the other day when I opened it. The door always has been a bit iffy and had we not wanted to change our kitchen I would have had it swapped out ages ago. Anyway that's another £500 down the drain replacing and refitting that. Fortunately no one was hurt, both Charlotte and Sean were asleep at the time, but Sean never got the beef burgers I was cooking for him because some of the glass ended up in the tray they had been cooked in.
In the mean time we all keep playing the lottery and euromillions hoping for some luck to shine down on us! But with luck like we've been having recently we're more likely to win, only to find we've lost the ticket...

I'm so pleased that Sean is doing so well - I was very worried for him and it's such a relief to know that he's ok...
Lou is in doggie hospital and is quite poorly (long story) so we've bought a lottery ticket too, though I'm not sure whether £80 million will cover their miscellaneous vet's bills!!
