I started giving Fizz fragaria last week. I didn't try putting the pill under her tongue, because she'd only spit it out. So I've been dissolving the pills in a tsp water. Most of the time it goes in, but some of the time has ended up on me. The site where I bought mine from suggests dissolving the pills in a little water and using a syringe, which I've just ordered and will try giving it to her that way.

Gucci had dreadful teeth when he came to live with us. We are trying Proden Plaqueoff and also the Salmon Gel from Petzlife. I'm also brushing them every day. Poor chap!! ;D I fear it may all be too late and am dreading his trip to the vet next month for his annual jabs...

Hi Yogi,
Our boy Dexter has awful teeth and at his last jabs I was told by my vet (who I don't have much faith in after she wasn't able to diagnose his corn...) he would need to be knocked out, teeth cleaned and possibly some removed at a cost of approx £250 - £300 depending on how many had to be removed. I live in Herts too.
However since coming on here and reading about corns, teeth and other stuff I have been using Fragaria. I use the drops, applied daily for first month, 1-2 drops directly into his mouth, I also brush daily, which he doesn't mind, very laid back dog. Already after 2 wks his teeth are starting to improve. I also give him and his wife bones to chew on which they love, that is when he doesn't fall asleep chewing!
Bearing in mind how he chews on a bone I can't imagine any teeth are actually "loose" or ready to come out, of course I'm no vet but he hasn't lost any teeth yet to my knowledge. I'm persevering with all the alternative methods before having him go back to the vet for his benefit and my pocket as this was the same vet that wanted to remove his whole toe because he has a corn...ouch!

Gucci is going for a dental on Monday. The Plaqueoff has done quite well but his teeth are still pretty poor. I'll let you know how he gets on.

Gucci is at the vets today for his dental. I just called and he has had 21 teeth removed! I'm so upset for him. How is he going to eat?

Hi Abi
It is upsetting when they lose so many teeth but don't worry, Gucci will be fine. They have more teeth than us to start with so losing 21 won't make Gucci as gummy as it would if you or I lost that many!
As to eating - while he's recovering then he'll need soft food (I'm sure the vet will advise you); but when he's recovered, you may just need to give slightly softer food and treats that you have done before but it won't have to be sloppy. We tend to use kibble that's designed for small dogs so they don't have to crunch quite so much, and moisten it with a little water.
Sadly, most of hounds have had to have a lot of teeth removed - the most notable was our old girl Poppy, who was so neglected by her previous owners that all but 2 of her teeth were removed! We took her in a fortnight after she had her teeth removed and she was eating 10 meals a day (she'd been badly starved) with no problem. She ate like a horse and would happily gum her way through a pig's ear (she was determined!) even if it did take her several hours! The only thing she had trouble with was picking chewsticks up from the floor - she didn't have any canine teeth left to "hook" food up from a hard floor - but we could help her there so it wasn't an issue.
I hope that Gucci recovers soon and proves to you how well he CAN still eat :-)

Thank you very much for your reassurance, Suethejam. Gucci came home yesterday evening and was in a bit of a state to start with. The vet removed his corn at the same time so his paw is bandaged too (it's a pink, leopard print bandage!). He wasn't interested in food at first but later on he had a small amount of chappie and this morning he had quite a bit more. He's dribbling a bit of blood but the vet said that is to be expected. He has to go back to check the dressing on his foot tomorrow and then again on Friday to check his teeth and his paw. You're right he still has a fair few teeth left - including all his front 'fangs' - and the vet said he will feel so much happier without all those painful teeth. Thanks again for your advice.
