I've had Cara for six months and I had noticed she had a faint outline of a corn on her front pad. Recovering from her broken toe, she has this week been getting used to walking on all fours again. For the last couple of days she has started to limp again so I had a look at her back paw. It seems as if overnight a corn has appeared - I don't know whether being bandaged up for 6 weeks has 'drawn' it out.
The vet had a look at it and mentioned removing under anaesthetic (which really spooks me after what happened to Lily). I mentioned the Forum and the various remedies, including verrucca pads. So as of today we start her new treatment (verrucca pads) and will also rub on the odd banana skin - hope we get a result.

Sorry Cara has corns they're a damn nuisance. If you try banana skin you need to tape it on somehow so the inside maintains contact with the pad. One of the vets at Upminster/ Horndon cores them out without sedation, Cass never objected to that or even squeeeked but the last time we went I saw a different vet who scraped an indentation in them and also cut her nails. The nails bled and she squeeked then, but to be honest they were long. I do try and file them down but can't stay on the floor long enough to make an impression. Vet also said alaways walk her with a boot on the corn paw.

Hi Pat,
I highly recommend Daniel Doherty who runs a practice called MyVet 247 in Hillingdon and Uxbridge. He is an expert greyhound vet and has cured both of Gucci's corns without the need for an anaesthetic. You'll need to make a few trips to complete the treatment (usually three) but he's happy to see greyhounds from all over the country. It's about an hour's drive from us but I think it would be nearer for you. I'd recommend seeing him at his Hillingdon branch as the parking is better: 25 – 28 Pield Heath Road, Hillingdon, UB8 3NG Tel: 01895 271444 (24 Hours)
I hope this helps,
Abi

Sorry Cara's developed a corn, Pat. How awful after all she went through with her broken toe (and you, of course!)
Hope you manage to get it successfully treated, keep us updated.

As Victor Meldrew would say "I simply don't believe it".
Bought corn treatment yesterday for Cara, intending to put it on before she went to bed.
When my daughter, who can be described as 'picky', came home from work, I told her what I intended to do. With that she disappears and I can hear her talking to Cara. Next thing I know, she has removed the corn and gone home.
This morning Cara is not limping.
I will keep an eye on the pad. If it reappears I will first of all use the banana method (Yvonne I know that by just rubbing the skin on affected area it should work without resorting to sticking the skin on with a plaster). If that works, all well and good, if not I'll then apply the treatment.
Meantime, I will rub the banana skin on her front pad where there is an outline of a corn is visible.

A month ago Cara had a corn removed. Less than 2 weeks later she was limping again, back to the vet who couldn't see corn but suggested it could be. With his approval I have now started treating her myself with corn pad and Scholls Corn and Verruca gel applied directly through hole in pad and held in place with Micropore tape. On top of this she wears a boot.
I was talking to Yvonne today at the Stifford Show and one of several methods she mentioned was duct tape and a site onFace Book called Greyhounds with corns. They sugested covering the corn with Duct tape method which has been updated by using Gorrilla Tape coupled with a small punch which provides a small patch which can be applied directly on to the corn and doesn't need covering. Certainly worth a try.

It has been a slow process with her continuing to limp and not able to manage her daily walks. Then suddenly, 2 weeks ago she started to put weight on her foot and walk normally. I know this may be a temporary reprieve but it has been lovely getting back into the old routine, seeing her looking so fit and healthy and enjoying her walks and running around the garden with the other dogs.

For anybody with a grey with corns I know how the corns get at you. Although I still haven't got a dog "corns" still interest me. I go on a facebook site www.facebook.com/groups/greyhoundswithcorns/ and people on there are using a product called "O'keeffes for working hands" (in a green tub) with some success, ie corns disappearing. You can buy it in Wickes and Screwfix, if Cass were still alive I would try it too. Thought I'd share XX
