Well for the moment it's 1 down and 1 to go. Fingers crossed. I have to admit I found it very stressfull seeing her so uncomfortable and thinking I wasn't capable of doing the best for her. I will update this thread to report on progress, I have spent hours (which I've got) looking for possible solutions, just hope I've found it.

Hi,
Try daniel Doherty in Uxbridge, he is one of the best Greyhound vets there is and he has a cure for corns which does not require surgery. The vet practice is called Myvet24-7. He cured my greyhounds Reo's corns and hundreds of others as well. Here is his number: 0189 5271444, he is very good and people with greyhounds have travelled for miles to see him.

The corn that fell out shows no sign of returning so that's nearly 4 months. The 2nd corn is almost there I can actually wiggle it in the pad but I can't find any sap in the dandelions (probably due to dry weather) and my hips are so bad that I can't always get on the floor to file the corn and look at it. I don't want to tug it out although I think it is dead. In the next couple of weeks I'm getting a new hip so hopefully if it hasn't gone completely I will be able to give it a bit more attention. My lovely neighbours who are walking Cass all the time now, are going to look after her for me.

Fina glad you've got your Reos corn problem sorted out, I couldn't drive that far and was hoping that "the corn vet" might supply some of the greyhound and lurcher vets with his magic potion. I don't blame him for not doing so, but corns are a problem worldwide and very often as in Cassies case re-occur after they've been cut out. But it would seem Daniel Doherty has the answer, did you have to keep the pad covered until the hole in the pad closed up. I think if you don't keep it covered something can get in it and the whole thing starts all over again. Yvonne

Bart suffered with a corn which we had cut out a few times and was also told the only cure was to take his toe off at which I was horrified, eventually heard about a Vet that had his own cure, we went to him for 4 weeks on the trot for treatment, eventually the corn went, but alas two years later we lost our lovely Bart. If anyone wants the vets name and number let me know. Chris

Sorry to revive this topic BUT Cass has another 2 corns, both pared out about 4 weeks ago and both need doing again. Pumalass did you go to Daniel Doherty in West London? or is the vet that removed Barts corn closer to Hornchurch. I wouldn't be able to drive to West London but I need to get these corns sorted.

Hi Yvonne yes sorry it was Daniel who sorted Bart we had Bart's corns cut out twice and they wanted to take his toe off which I was against, I heard about Daniel and we took Bart to him and it did work. I know it's a bit of a trek but it was so worth not seeing Bart in discomfort. Chris

Can you still get Scholls Verucca pads does anyone know? Our Ben has just had a corn removed and is limping badly. I so hope that it doesn't come back, I don't want him to go through that again or to lose his toe.

I think you can still get them, I will look in my chemist at Elm Park for you when I go there. I put a boot on Cass when we go out, I get them from Alpha vets at the old kennel site, and find them really good, they stay on even when she's doing her back pedalling after a poo. They do wear out fairly quickly but only cost about £5 or £6 and are quite soft and a bit padded with 2 velcro straps. We are down to 1 corn now but am not sure what got rid of the other one. I did use the remedy found on here under the heading Corn Solution provided by David Bailey, not sure wether it was that one or my whacky combinations that did the trick.

Thanks Yvonne, I live at Rainham, so just up the road from you. I haven't had a chance to have a look in the chemist yet but hopefully the corn won't come back. I did buy two different boots but each time he just stood with his leg held out and refused to put it down. I did see the "corn solution" but didn't like the idea of the rock salt. Ben had his operation at Hillpark vets in Elm Park, but if I have any further problems I think that I will go to Alphavets. I thought that they had moved with the kennels but understand that they are still there.

Went to Elm park pharmacy and they do have the verucca pads but think you may have a problem keeping them on (opposite Greggs). I tried the " corn solution" but used sea salt instead of rock salt. I think the knack is to kill the corn, for Cass hulling it out made her more comfortable but they just grew back. I have filed them down and also used a small electric manicure set on it but never managed to achieve the results that Alpha vets do. I think some greys are more prone to them than others, just like some people with warts. I will have another go at the "corn solution" at least you can drink the vodka if it doesn't work. Alpha Vets were still there when I drove past last week but the kennel complex has big shut gates across the road now, looks awful, think you'll need to phone first to see how to get in.

I did wonder how they would stay on and probably the dog concerned would lick them. We have an appointment with the Elm Park vet on Monday evening for a check up. Any more problems after that then I will ring Alphavets. When we drove past there a couple of weeks ago the gates were closed with notices on the gates.

Alphavets are still there, I believe that if you have an appointment you have to call up when you are at the gate and they will come and let you in.
