We have just returned from a lovely Greyhound Friendly Pub in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. The Bull, a 1600 century Freehouse run by John and Betty who have their five retired greyhounds living at the pub and also have two current racers. The pub is totally decked out with fabulous greyhound photo's and paintings, everywhere you look are bronze status of greyhounds, photos adorn the walls, and a cabinet full of prize winning medals. Frank was made most welcome, they have a fantastic lunch menu. Photos to follow The Bull 89 Cambridge Road CM21 9BX Attachments:

The outside of the pub set the scene for what was waiting inside. His Lordship was impressed with the guard hounds, and how still they stood. Attachments:

An example of the greyhound-aria on display. If conversation drops off, spend some time 'reading' the walls.. Attachments:

This had Frank's heart racing. He was a bit miffed to discover it was not part of the lunch menu.. Attachments:

The pub looks great - there are few enough dog-firendly pubs, let alone ones dedicated to greys...
We take sheepskins to the pub for Blue and Lou to lie on - like Frank, they're not spoiled at all, not a bit of it!

The most dog friendly part of the world I've been to for pubs is Devon and Cornwall, we've never had a refusal or a dogs outside only at any pub we've been to. On the Sunday after Christmas we had a nice meal at the Westleigh Inn, Westleigh, North Devon. It's not easy to find and is down very narrow roads. Even though we were eating, as were those around us, both Sean and Tess were welcome.

I have to agree with you about Devon being a very dog friendly part of the country, me and Barry stayed at a lovely dog friendly B and B in lynton on Exmoor. All the local pubs made Paddy very welcome. I suppose the fact that Devon is very rural and there are lots of farming communities where dogs are part are parcel of daily life that they are made welcome. I like the look of that pub in Sawbridgeworth, I can feel a pub lunch comign on ;D

We make a note of dog-friendly pubs as we travel around the country in our narrowboat - these are listed in our indigodream.wordpress.com/indigo-dreams-rough-guide-to-moorings/' The entries are dated but it's worth checking with the pub before setting out specially - I couldn't guarantee it's accuracy because if the landlord changes then so could the dog policy. I'm afraid it's organised by canal and I keep meaning to do a separate list of dog-friendly pubs - a job for a rainy day (or for the next week when I'm snowed in). If you can't make head or tail of the canal locations then drop me a mesage and I can clarify!

I'll pop down there and check if anything has changed. Pub's that allow dogs in around the area include: The Bricklayers in Bishop's Stortford is very dog friendly - just say you are a friend of Mo and you'll find your houndy being given all sorts of lovely treats - sausages, ham, chicken, in fact whatever seems to be on for the day! Food's good and there are 2 bars - one posh one traditional. They also do fish finger sandwiches! The owners have been there for many years and were tenants until a short while ago. They have recently bought the pub and now do real ale and are changing things now they are not restricted! The Green Man in Takeley, is dog friendly and again has recently had new landlords who are really changing the pub for the better. It has recently undergone a full paint job outside and they are refurbishing the inside. It's quite an old pub with beams and a fire. They have 2 young resident dogs too. The pub's about 375 years old. Nearer to The Bull is a pub near High Wych called the Dusty Miller, this is dog friendly although it's being run by a temporary manager at the moment. A guy goes in there with some gorgeous Italian Grey's! The food is typically 'brewery fare' but OK none the less. The prices are very good. In case you're wondering - I'm a scout for the Dog Friendly website!
