has he ever suffered from this before? Maybe take him vets, bertie caught foxes mange and had clumps of fur falling out from his bum area, thighs, tummy SMS neck..... Hey got 2 new flea treatmens and had to use them two weeks apart and some cream to rub in his skin :-) the flea treatment makes it seem worse (as you gotta wait til the mange are dead) his bum has started to grow back, and his neck is nearly back to normal :-)

Hi Jo have you got a close up picture you could send me? it could just be that he is shedding his coat from winter to summer and now he is in a house it would fall out in handfuls and once out it will not do this and will only shed a little, if not that it could be foxes mange in which case go to the chemist and ask for benzole benzate . It will kill the problem very quickly, it is like a white emulsion you put it all over the problem area and let it dry in, you do that for three days leave it three days and then do it again and that should clear it. But if the skin is very dry as well get exmarid shampoo and that will clear up the scurf pat

I'm not worried about Cassie, I realise it's just normal this time of the year. It's just the mange thing I was curious about, we've so many foxes around so I was just wondering.

I would imagine like fleas, by coming into contact with the mange mite. Like most dogs Cassie rolls on the grass a lot and I suppose if a mangey fox has laid there she could catch it. I believe we could catch scabies from it as well. I've had various breeds of dogs for years and mixed with doggy people ( best sort to mix with ) and apart from Bertie I've only ever known one dog to have mange and that was demodectic mange. That was a GSD that came out of the largest Lost/rehoming organisation in London with it, she may have been mangey but she was a real sweetie. Hope Barney is just suffering from natural shedding. Yvonne

thanks Yvonne, yes maybe he is just shedding, i have never had dogs before so i am not sure which natural and which is not, this is the first summer he as spent with us so maybe he is getting rid of his kennel fur which i have been told is thicker than normal.

Our boy Blue has put on a thick coat this winter and is looking scruffy because I suspect he's due for a huge moult any minute now.
He has developed a very scurfy bald area on his tail which I was afraid was mange, but the vet says that he'd be chewing/scratching if it was. The vet put it down to a normal seasonal moult and, apparently, older male dogs do sometimes develop bald patches on their tails - not sure why!
Hope that helps - but if in doubt check!

i think they catch the mange how yvonne described it....we used to have foxes in the garden....we live near a field so now i cook up any old scraps and place it on the field.....theres never any crumbs left plus we havent heard a fox for ages!!
