Apologies for probably using the wrong category of subject but I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone on this forum who has freely offered advice to me about my rehomed g-hound back in February this year. He wasn't all that the Dog's Trust told me that he was. Turns out he's just turned 4 years old, not 8 as I was told. He'd also never lived in a house prior to going to DT so no wonder he had some "issues" when I first got him. (He'd already been bounced twice before I got him for "biting" people - which merely turned out to be snapping (no contact) and which has since (nearly) stopped completely - now an awful lot less frequent - about once a month at most and normally I can spot the signs now to avoid conflict.)
You all gave me great advice and support and I'd like to tell you that my furry boy, Codie, is now fully settled in with his mum and having the most wonderful life. We've totally moved out of London (I used to live in two places) and are now purely living in the countryside which Codie loves. He gets 3 stiff walks a day plus a starlight wee wee walk and I've managed to find a friendly farmer in the area with the 2 most amazingly flat fields with fab fencing all the way round both of them and he's fine with me running the boy in there when he's not got stock in. He's learnt all his basic commands, and having consulted with a dog behaviourist a few months ago, he's getting more and more confident when needing to walk near other dogs (he's frightened of them so tends to be aggressive if they bark or make a fuss). Sadly he has only improved a little where cats are concerned but perhaps I will just have to live with that. He's learnt the phrase "this way" to follow me, and "quack quack" which means he gets a piece of chicken/sausage if he comes back to me!! He's learn to "wait" when I need him to stay still for me or when there is traffic passing us on the lanes. I've learnt that a small piece of freshly cooked chicken or small piece of sausage is his fave but sadly still doesn't trump a cat but does beat a hedgehog!
He is an absolute joy and I can barely remember life BC (Before Codie!) So glad you all encouraged me to stick with the boy and show him tenderness, love and care. He is a different dog to 7 months ago when I got him!
Bless you for all the marvellous work that your team do. Codie and Codie's mum x

Pat, wot Sue said, only without the marmalade.
Codiesmum, I can't tell how pleased I was to read your post. When you stopped posting earlier this year I feared the worse. There's a special feeling when you know you've given a home to a dog that really needs it, and an even better feeling when you've achieved such an improvement in his behaviour. You should be proud of yourself.

Thanks Sallyann. It's been a real project (not over yet, I am sure) but he's doing sooooo well. What fund raising do you do? I live in Northamptonshire but would be happy to help in whatever way I can/could. Love, Codie's Mum

I should have given you the whole lo-down on the boy. He's put on weight. He's now the perfect weight, according to the vet. His Bob Martin pills seem to have worked wonders and his coat is coming back - slowly. He hasn't (fingers crossed!) chewed anything in the house that he ought not since 7th May (what a very good boy!) and the frequency with which he "has a go" at me has tailed off to the point it's hardly ever now - and even when it is, 9 times out of 10 I can spot a reason for it. His sleep aggression has lessened off - but he's still sleeping down stairs and long may that continue, for the sake of my lovely upstairs carpeting and I don't want to fall asleep worrying if he's going to get feisty in his sleep. :-) He's loving his regular (very carefully) managed runs. He is just such an affectionate boy and I love him to bits! Defo a one woman dog though - don't think he's ever take to another g-hound coming to live with is - which is a shame as, ideally, at some future point I wouldn't mind homing another. Do let me know about the fund raising activity - I'm a pretty organised gal and love being busy. Best Wishes, Codie's mum.

So glad you decided to give the Bob Martins a try - they really do work wonders - I bet Codie's coat looks great now. They are an old remedy but was surprised when my vet said he hadn't heard of them.
It sounds as if life for you and Codie is on the up. So glad you persevered with him he was worth it.
Look forward to hear of his progress.

Hi Pat - he's like stroking velvet! Sooooo soft and his ears are beyond soft - which he loves having gently fussed. Every morning when I come down stairs he rolls over onto his back and give s me his tummy. We have about 20 mins of "tummy lovin' time" as I call it before we head out for our morning walk. I'd be happy to get involved in some fund raising activities if you could point me in the right direction. I'll be sure to keep you all up-to-date with how the boy does - so far, so good! Love Codie and Codie's mum.

Codie's mum,
My response is a bit belated, but I was so pleased to hear about your progress with Codie, well done! Like Sally, I was a bit alarmed when you stopped posting.
There is something really special in the bond with a rescue dog and you now truly know how wonderful greyhounds can be!
