before i go into detail this is not a knock at any vets . About a month ago jo our 11 year old blue started limping on her front leg it concerned us mainly because 9 months ago she had a toe amputated on the same leg. well since alphavets shut down we had been using your vets at rayleigh (who have all ways been very good with our two greys). the first vist to them they said it was bruising and they gave us some pain killers well after a couple of weeks and jo was not really any better we took her back to be told that it looked like her ligament between her toes was breaking down and there was nt a lot they could do and gave her so really strong pain killer that we have since been told is not normally given out until the last stages of cancer .well we brought her home to talk about how we should handle what seemed like could be her last days. The following day i went over the kennels and had a word with Pat and she said try asking the greyhound vets at brentwood ,well with not to much to lose i phoned them up and got an appointment ,not really expecting any good news and thinking they would just confirm what the other vets said .Well to cut a long story short we now have a completly different dog it appears she had a small stone/glass in her pad although she still has the dressing on she is now running and has the sparkle back in her eye .THANK YOU PAT ,THANK YOU GREYHOUND SPORT MEDICINE

I`m glad Jo is on the mend. This is something I have been though sadly myself. Prince was suddenly taken ill 4 months ago, I took him to Pets at home where they removed 2 teeth and done a x-ray unnecessary £500 pound down the drain. I took him to the three Italians where sadly prince did not come home with us. as he was diagnosed with something neurological with the brain. I cannot fault these guys as they only deal with greyhounds and look after each dog as if they were their own. I would recommend them to anyone who owns a greyhound. Its been a learning curve for me that when you own a unique animal its best to go to a vets who know the breed inside and out. general vets deal with all types of dogs and not necessarily know how the greyhound is unique.

After the recent experience with Lily I have lost faith in my vet . My vet told me she had rung a consultant at the RVC for a second opinion, but with due respect he had not seen Lily, and the physical wreck she had become, they doubted that she had had a stroke even though there was no movement down the left side of her head and I was having to apply drops to her affected eye every hour to prevent ulceration.
I will keep a note of this number, I hope I wont need it, but it would be worth the trip down the M1/M25 for a consultation with a vet who understands the breed.
Gazza. I'm glad your girl is now recovering

The Italian vets are, in my opinion, the best and their fees very reasonable. They genuinely care and would never take my dogs anywhere else.

We use Bill Steele down at Clark's Farm greyhound rescue he has a building next to the rescue. What he doesn't know about greyhounds isn't worth knowing, apart from being a top vet he is really nice man and very caring, wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else.
