I took Scooby for his regular jabs yesterday and they've detected a heart Murmur . He's having a heart Scan on Wednesday, just wondered if anyone else has any experience of this and advice. Naturally we're worried and crossing everything that it wont be too bad. ;o(

Ok, a lot of greyhounds that I know have had heart murmers and have lived quite happily with them. There are lots of grades of murmer and low grade ones seem to be quite common. There's a good explanation here: www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/cardiovascular/c_dg_heart_murmurA few of our hounds have had low grade murmers - but we did have some mystery murmers - the vet would sometimes detect a murmer when the hound was ill/stressed then find that it had disappeared! The murmers never caused them any problems. I think you're wise to have a scan though and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's nothing to worry about.

I had a similar experience with my previous girl, Dolly. The vet put it down to anxiety generated by the visit to the vets. Subsequent visits did not detect a murmur. Better to safe than sorry though so would definitely have the scan done.
