Am taking Lily to the vets on Monday, she has a very hot spotty rash on inside of her back leg spreading over her tummy, she is biting and licking it every few minutes. Have tried TeaTree cream but she licks it off. Am worried it could be mites. If anyone has had this with their hound I would be grateful for advice. Fred

Just got back from vets, it's not mites thank goodness, the vet said it looks like she is allergic to something . I have not changed anything since she came home with me, she is moulting a lot though, should they moult this end of the year? Anyway she has had an injection to stop heat and itching, also a course of Rilexine antibiotics. Anyone got a houndie with allergies? Fred and Lily

Hi Pat, thanks for reply, no new carpets or different soap but the vet did tell me to use Piriton but double the human dose. Good news is since injection Lily has stopped biting and licking herself. Don't know if it is the antibiotics but she has terrible wind.

Think some antibiotics do that, and if Cass licks tea tree she can pebble dash a wall, happened twice so I don't use it now !! Cass has had a few red spots and /or a red patch on her belly and inside of her back legs where there isn't any hair. As she doesn't go off lead it must come from my garden, I wondered wether it could be nettles or borage leaves, I use good old sudocreme on her. Hope Lily doesn't have an allergy because that's a nuisance, so I suppose it's Piriton now for the first aid kit. I bought some this summer as Cass started snapping at wasps etc.

Hi Yvonned, many thanks for reply I had TeaTree and Sudocreme to choose from, trust me to choose wrong one. Where we go for walks over the field they have cut all the weeds down so it could be something like nettles. Yes definitely going to buy some Piriton.

anti hisamine cream would be good as it would stop the itch as well, teatree can be poison to a greyhound if they digest too much, we once had a lady who put teatree on the coat once a month, the bitch had a lovely coat but constant runs and this was the reason, she licked the coat and the teatree went into her system, not good

Ben gets itchy sometimes, we think nettles? he will then lick so much he gets sore. we use Dermacton Spray for itchy dogs (web site below) Ben HATES the taste and it seems to soothe the itch. www.aromesse.com
