Hi All,
We have never had any problems with Lurch but I went downstairs to let him into the garden to do his business earlier and noticed that he had made a mess (wee) on the sofa.
Could this be a one off or should a trip to the vets be in order?
This is the first time he has had an accident on the sofa and is totally out of character.
Thanks Pia

Hi Pia
If the wee was normal then I would keep a close eye on him butnot take him to the vet yet. Watch his behaviour and see if he is drinking more. If he does seem to be drinking more or behaving strangely or if he has another accident, then I would take him to the vet. Hopefully it was just a one off.

Pia do you think he has cocked his leg on the sofa or did it happen when he was lying down sleeping ie leaking. May be worth having a look at other places where he lays. Is it definately a wee or do you think he could have dribbled from his mouth, this happens to Cass sometimes. Dogs don't usually wee intentionally and lie in it. Leaking urine often happens to dogs that are either in pain, have an infection, are overwieght or in some spayed bitches their muscles are weak.

Hi,
I'm hoping it was just a one off. He hadn't cocked his leg it was actually on the sofa where he was laying down. I will keep an eye on him and see how he is the next few days. Was Definately a wee but weak in colour.

Hi Pia sometimes this happens if they get an infection then they find it harder to control or if they have had a really exhausting walk and they are so tired they cannot wake in time to get up to go, just watch and make sure his wee is not getting dark pat

Ben did this once, a couple of years ago. It did not happen again (touch wood) so we put it down to too much water, a very long walk and a very deep sleep. He seemed unaware of it.

Sean sometimes wees overnight in a room with a really old vinyl floor (needs replacing) but since he's getting on now, the floor is really old and it's a room we don't sit in (it's just a pass through area) we don't worry about it. We just make sure he doesn't have water overnight to not encourage it and if he wees there we just mop it with floor cleaner and bleach. Fortunately for us if there was such a thing as a room it's OK to wee in, it's this room.
