Hello, Scoby has had a bald bum for a while now but now she's developed a bald neck, too. I've read a few things that say that hair loss is quite common with newly homed greyhounds (we've had Scoby and Gucci since mid April) but should we be doing something to help? We're giving her and Gucci Dry Skin Vetzymes and also Cod Liver Oil (mainly for Gucci's dandruff!!) and we've changed their leather outdoor collars to (fake) fur lined ones. Is there anything else we should be doing? Thank you!

I've used aloe vera gel in the past and am convinced it helps.

Prince use to get a bald neck and it was from his house collar, so while indoors he doesn`t wear it, only when out. My Foster girl who has just been rehomed was bald on her bum. we had her for 3 months she was loosing her kennel coat while with us, and her bottom hair was growing back so it may take a while longer. when we brushed her we didn`t brush near bottom to give it a chance to grow back. I think the change in weather plus central heating can contribute to dry skin and hair loss. The vetzymes you are using is good for Dry skin as that is what i use on prince and on the foster greyts that come into my home, but you do have to use about 3 bottles to see any improvement.

Thank you both for your advice and reassurance. We're only on the second pot of Vetzymes but they've certainly made Scoby's coat lovely and glossy. It sounds like her bald patches should start to grow over soon! ;D

My girl Lyra has always had a bald bum. I have tried aloe vera, cod liver oil, and other lotions but nothing helps. It causes no prroblems so we just leave it now.

Cass is a baldy bum and belly girl and I don't worry about it. After the cold weather because she'd started getting a bit of dry skin I put her on Healthspan glossy coat and skin conditioner and both bum and belly have grown fur. I now give her just 1 a week. Her coat is glossy and she only flakes if she gets a bit stressed. Have to admit I'm not very good at the grroming, she never seems to need it. Americans hold baldy bum competitions for their greys, perhaps we should do the same !
