Hi, Does anyone know of a vet who knows about greyhounds within a ten mile radius of Thundersley (top of the hill from Benfleet) please? We took Kitty to one but not sure he even knew what breed she was Thank you x

I think the nearest dedicated Greyhound vet is Warley (Brentwood) way, other's are better able to advise on that though, where they are and how to contact them. I think in the past Greyhoundhomer has used "YourVet" who are in Raleigh, not sure about now. www.yourvets.co.uk/our-clinics/rayleigh/Greyhounds have a few breed quirks, but they shouldn't be a nightmare to care for by any experienced vet. Probably the thing they have to be most careful with is putting them under, there's a bit more risk to them than other breeds, I guess because they carry less body fat than other breeds and have a higher red blood cell count as well. There's some 'vet speak' about Greyhound blood here: www.greythealth.com/blood.html if you're interested.

I've used Your Vet at Rayleigh weir. Or there is a vet just down bread and cheese hill on the left as you go down from Thundersley to Benfleet. I can't remember the name of it. Nicky

I use Cherrydown vets who have surgeries in Wickford, Stanford-le-Hope and Basildon (the main surgery). I have always had excellent service from them and their costs are very reasonable.

Wylies at Upminster are excellent, and have hospital facilities, and 24 hour cover. They also give the overnight cover for many vets in the area. We also use Earls Hall, several practices around Southend area, including hospital and 24 hour cover. I would always require a vet that I could count on being there during the night, and had vet and nurses on duty through the night in case of hospitalisation, if that helps And welcome to the forum. I love Kitty. She is very much like my boy. So glad you are so pleased with her. She will soon learn the rules, Hazel x

It was YourVet & Rayleigh Weir that we went 2. Maybe we were just unlucky. I know the one down Bread & Cheese Hill, I can't go back there as I blame them 4 treating me as a neurotic owner and the next day my cat died :-( I will have a look at those links & decide whether 2 stick with the Weir or try one of the ones you kind people have suggested. Thanks for your answers x
