Hi all, earlier this morning Fizz got her lead caught around her legs, whenever this happens she panics and yelps. It isn't a little yelp either, it sounds as though she's really being hurt. I've checked her legs and they seem okay. If this happens to our other dog Theo (Mini Schnauzer) he just waits for one of us to untangle the lead, no yelping or panicking. Also when she had a bath last year the, the dog groomer said that she did the same thing when she tried to lift her. She's walking and running okay, no problems. Does anyone know why please? Thank you.

The problem is a far greater amount of greyhound bitches (Than dogs) are so highly strung, that many of them exhibit this type of behaviour when put into the position you describe. In my experience you will never ever train this out of the dog because it is inbuilt into their make-up.
People often bring greyhounds around to my house to have their nails cut, but I have had to turn many away who had these screaming banshee’s greyhounds. The last thing I wanted was the RSPCA around my house sent in by a neighbour concerned I was mistreating my dogs.
On the other hand I have also had bitches who never make a sound when I'm cutting their nails, but scream the house down when the owner tries to cut them themselves.
Greyhound bitches, a law unto themselves. Just like my ex-wife really. Lol
She may grow out of at about 14 ½, so hang in there.

Thank you, the screaming banshee Greyhound is a very good way to describe what she does. As for having her nails cut, it's the same thing again. A lot of the time she'll scream in agony before the dog groomer puts the clippers to her nails. I'm okay with it as long as it's nothing to worry about.

Hi Leefizz, my boy does exactly the same thing. First time it happened, I didn't spot the lead wrapped round one of his front legs, and you would have thought I was murdering him! Happened a second time a few weeks after - same reaction. Did wonder if he was suffering from an old leg injury - but I don't believe so - think it is just something that some of them do. Codie seems to "recover" very quickly and suffers no ill after effects - such as fear of the lead or walkies.. :-) Hope this sets your mind at rest, at least a little. Codies Mum
