Hi all, just wanted to check up on something. Does anyone know if it is okay to use cooling mist on dogs? I mean the ones for humans you can get from the chemist. The one I have is Beauty Formulas body and face cooling mist. It's okay to use on human skin, so should be alright, but thought I'd check first. Thank you.

I don't know for certain, but if you want to check ingredients then look out for things like menthol, alcohols or fragrance - they're the most likely to be irritant (though the risk is probably very small).
I think that Evian do a cooling mist which is just water (check the label!) and I can't see any harm there as long as it's not sprayed directly into their eyes!
Hope that helps.

Hi suethejam, had a look at the ingredients on the can, not sure what some of them are, so will have a look at the Evian one instead, thank you. Or I could get one of those spray bottles from the pound shop, and put some chilled water in that. Didn't think of that until after I posted though.

Hi Lee, I wouldnt take the chance really. Best to just use plain water. I,ve got some white toweling coats that I soak in cool water, and they reflect the sun as well, being white, but you get the same effect with a white towel that you could clip or tie under the front neck. But cold water in a spray is ideal. xx

i bought a micro towel and attached a velcro strap under the girth and on the front a button. i soak this and it lasts a good couple of hrs before you need to pour more water over it. i do get some silly people who make the comment its too hot for your dog to be wearing a coat , until i tell then that its wet and keeping him cool. Then its oh thats a good idea.

There is a company called keepcool.org.uk who provide coats of all sizes. They work from a P.O. Box in Burnham and have an online shopping facility. You are looking at around £40-45 for a greyghound but thats worth the comfort they can experience. There are probably other companies providing similar coats but this one looked pretty good. My Ted is not a sun worshiper like my previous dog and I have to keep a close eye on him in hot weather so it looks like my wallet is going to be a bit lighter!!!

Thank you, Hazel and Diane, probably won't be able to make my own, no good at that sort of thing. Towelling coats look good though, just had a look at some £13-£17 depending on size, which isn't bad. Will also cover the bald patches that she has.
