Hi all,
I need some advice on my dogs ears, I noticed the day I got him home his ear canals were black and had an odor, I tried to clean them with a cotton bud dipped in warm water but this he found uncomfortable so I let him be.
I also noticed that his ears would sometimes get really hot, I just assumed this was normal. Anyways, yesterday I had another go with a wet wipe, and managed to get most of the black stuff out, but since then he has been shaking his head a lot, as if hes uncomfortable, he does'nt seem right in himself today and his ears are very hot!
Could he have ear mites? or an infection?

Pat will know more, but head shaking is a classic sign of ear inflammation.
I'd go off to the vet and get it checked out....

I should have added that immediately after me cleaning them yesterday he was shaking is head a lot, maybe this was because some of the yuk fell into his ear?
He hasn't done that today, but he does seem not himself..
I assumed the black yuk in his ears was due to him being in the Kennels, so before I take him to the vet I wanted to seek advice on here...

Hi yes some the the black they get in the ears is due to the fact that they have paper bedding in the kennels and the dust gets everywhere, if you have cleaned it and he is fine, i would not worry, but if he is not himself then i would get him checked out. Usually the kennels clean their ears every week as the paper is sometimes very dusty pat

Thanks Pat, I think he's ok, he may have a slight cold as we got caught in the rain a few days ago, and hes sneezing..
I will monitor him..

tell me about the rain, we got soaked while people were looking at the dogs, the poor people were like us cold and wet, but still decided to take a dog, so well done them.He has probably just got a bit cold as they do, but provided he is feeling okay it should pass quickly pat
