Thanks for posting, Lee I've seen the german shepherd one before, but love the greyhound one- what a clever hound. Maybe Fizz could talk to you, as she is so clever! One of my daughters bought me an IQ test kit for your dogs- will have to try that one out!! LOL!

Hi Sue, the IQ test sounds interesting, is it a book or a game? Lee

Hi Lee Sorry it's a late reply, haven't logged on over Christmas. It's actually a booklet and stopwatch, I think she got it from Amazon (where she did all her Christmas shopping- LOL!). We're away at the mo, but when I get back home, I'll try and remember to put a note as to the title and author. I did have a quick look at it and basically it's a series of tests, I'm sure Fizz would win paws down!! Sue

Hi Sue, thank you. I looked it up on ebay, found one with a booklet and stopwatch, so will probably send off for it. I'd never even heard of an IQ test for dogs before, glad you mentioned it.

Hi Lee It's sounds like the same one- it's "How smart is your dog?, A self-scoring intelligence test for dogs" by Dr Stanley Coren, its classed as a game- by Paul Lamond Games.
Maybe we should compare scores later on!!! LOL!! Some of the things require a dog to sit, which is not so clever for a grey, although Nelly can sit. I think Brennan will come out with a very low score, as he can't be bothered with a lot of things ( eg those kong toys) but did learn very quickly to lift his paws on command when we're drying his feet on a wet day, so can't be that thick!! LOL!!

Hi Sue, that's the one I found on ebay. Instead of getting her to sit, I'll get her to lay down and score her on that. Not sure how she'll do really because the test doesn't involve food. Maybe if Brennen doesn't do the test he probably can, but like you say , he just can't be bothered. Fizz is the same, unless there's a treat in it for her. Lee

Fizz did most of her IQ test today. She has been trained with the dog activity toys which have helped a great deal.
Test 1 Observational learning. With this one I had too choose a time of day when she is settled (not due for her walk) Make sure she is awake, silently pick up my coat and her lead, then stay still. Because she reacted to this, she ran directly too me she scored 5 points.
Test 2 Problem solving. I had too show her a treat, let her sniff it, then very slowly put the treat under a can. She took 7 seconds with this one and scored 4 points.
Test 3 Attention environmental learning. With this I had to rearrange some furniture and see if she noticed. This one took her 3 seconds (nosey hound) Score 5 points
Test 4 Problem solving. With this one I had to throw a large towel over her head. She freed herself in 6 seconds, score 5.
Test 5 Social learning. With this one I had too be about 8 feet away from her, stare at her for when she looks at me count to 3 then smile. She came to me straight away tail wagging, score 5.
Test 6 Problem solving. similar to test 2, but using a tea towel. Took 6 seconds, score 5.
Test 7. Short-term Memory. I had to take a treat let Fizz see me place it in a corner of the room, lead out of the room, walk her in circle take her back to the room with the treat., she sniffed remembered where it was, score 4.
Test 8 Long-term Memory. The setup is the same as test 7, but the treat is placed in a different corner. She was kept out of the room for 5 minutes, went directly to treat, score 5.
Test 9 I Had to stack some books into a similar shape to a table. Makeshift table has to be low to the ground so she can't fit her head underneath. Show her the treat, put it under the table and time her she scored 5 points.
Test 10 Language Comprehension. Make sure she is settled comfortably, 8 feet away from me. In tones normally used to call her, call refrigerator. She scored 3 for this one.
Well done Fizz

Thank you Sarah. Fizz did well on the memory tests and on the problem solving tests. I did try the learning/obedience, she didn't score anything on that one. I tried test 5 again, the second time she went back to sleep, so her responses do vary. I'm not going mad or anything, but Fizz does react to different accents. When I was walking her a while back I got talking to someone who was American, when she heard them speak she did that thing where they tilt their head from side to side and walked towards them. She did the same thing the other day. Does anyone else;s dog do this? Beats me how she can tell the difference. Lee
