hi all
for the past week, prince has not been eating his breakfast. he will either have pate on toast or scrambled egg. so i started to give it to him a bit later thinking he may not be hungry yet. but it has made no difference.
he will eat his lunch which is a yogurt and a small sausage roll, and for his tea its wofcal with chicken mince, which again he finishes all up.
i`m wondering if the chicken mince is filling him up, he has only started eating it for the last couple of weeks, as i was a little concerned of his weight, and was told the chicken mince would be good for him.

We have all sorts of fun and games with Seans eating habits, like you've found a few months ago he stopped eating breakfast which was usually a cerial mix in watered down milk. We then tried some sardines which he always used to yum down, but he wasn't interested in that either. So eventually we gave up and he now has one main meal a day (mince beef, sausages and Harringtons), then there's treats during the day which he sometimes eats and any suitable leftovers from our food. We've found with Sean that he's the master of liking something for a while then deciding he doesn't want it. So essentially we've found that we can offer him any suitable food and he'll either eat it or won't he just makes up his own mind at the time. His weight stays consistently at 32Kgs, although I'd like him to be about 500g to 1Kg heavier. But he seems happy and doesn't beg for food everytime we eat so I work on the assumption that if he wanted more food it would be evident around the times we eat in the form of begging.
In terms of weight Pat says if a Greyhound is roughly flat between the tops of the bones that stick up a little between the back and tail (the very top of the back legs I guess is the best description) then the weight is right, too concave between the bones and the dog is under weight and if the tops of the bones can't been seen at all then the houndie should probably lose a little weight.

thank you mark. i weigh prince every 6 months he lost a little weight which is why we put him on the chicken mince to bulk him up so to speak. he has come back to his ideal weight. so maybe the chicken mince is filling him. i do offer him a bit of my toast in the morning but he is not interested. the good thing with prince is he will tell me when its time for food, so maybe cut out breakfast for a while and see if and when he lets me know he wants to eat that again.

Definitely, Sean is the same with meals and every event in his normal day, he'll come and get you when it's time. And you certainly don't want to be late with walking time, otherwise it's nag, nag, nag...LOL!

yes prince is like that aswell, on one occasion he was nagging me to the point of grabbing my paper work out of my hands and when i went to pick them off the floor where he dumped them, he sat on them as if to say you get them back once you`ve taken me out. he is so comical, there is never a day goes by where he doesn`t makes me laugh.

Interestingly Simon used to be a bit fussy and would often turn his nose up at various meals and leave part of it. Since we got a second dog though we have NEVER had a less than sparkling clean bowls after about 1minute! So another dog is the answer!
