Hi all, just wondering if anyone on here has heard of the furminator deshedding tool. Just been looking them up and was thinking of getting one to use on Fizz. They're about £25 to £30 for the large ones, don't really want to pay that much if they don't work, but think it would be worth getting if they do. They're are some good reviews online though. Thanks.

Funny you should ask - I wa admiring our crew member Sarah's greyhounds over the weekend (she's the one with seven hounds) and a Furminator is what she uses - she reckons she's got a medium which works well. I think she got hers from Amazon.
I was going to get one for our three because Lynx is looking a bit motheaten (sorry Lynx) and I'm beginning to think that Lou will never stop moulting - she's got an unusually thick coat for a greyhound.

we sell the grooming rake that the kennels use and that is £5 plus postage or we have them at every show and they get rid of the top coat with out breaking the under coat a lot cheaper than a furminator and just as good if not better. I always use our rakes on all our dogs and it gives them a lovely coat pat

That's helpful Pat, I did give a sharp intake of breath when I found out how much the Furminator cost!

i recommend the rake from pats, and its the best product so far that i can say does the job at a reasonable price.

At the moment I'm using the rubber grooming mitt which is alright. I had thought about using the grooming rakes but Fizz is on the skinny side and that put me off, but now I know other Greys are okay with them I'll give that a go. Glad I asked now thanks. Lee

Hi, I use a grooming rake on Mousha. It is really good when she is moulting and gets rid of loads of excess fur. Plus her coat looks gleaming and beautiful afterwards. As long as you are gentle it doesn't hurt them

We bought a grooming rake from Pat and it has been one of the best buys - and an absolute bargain too ;D I would have to say save your money and invest in one of them instead Vinny would stand there all day and let you 'rake' him - if you stop you get a nudge or a look or he leans on you! If he happens to see us get the rake from the cupboard he is there like a shot! We don't need to use it as often on Gracie Lu as she doesn't seem to have a moulting gene - unlike the furry Polie Bear who seems to constantly need a comb (even though he doesn't leave fur everywhere - which is odd! ) With ref to skinny houndies (ah bless) - GL is a skinny binny too but the rake doesn't bother her - it has two teeth 'lengths' and as long as we use the shorter side all is well (in fact Vinny has quite thick fur but the short side works fine on him too) x

Yep - with you on the rake too. Patrick gets very excited when we get the rake out (unlike the toothbrush!!!) and he also leans on you, tail wagging, gazing up in ecstacy!

Hi, that is helpful thank you. My first Greyhound, Jess would stand there all day and let me brush her, but after about two minutes Fizz gets bored and walks off. Lee

Lee Oh bless Fizz Even if there is only a two minute 'window of brushing opportunity' the grooming rake is such a bargain so possibly worth a try before buying something more expensive (not forgetting the houndies benefit from the sale too )
