I am after advice again please. We aim to have our grey home in the next 10 days. The rgt centre we are going to does provide a coat but of course I want to make the hound as happy as can be.
We don't have loads of money but I want to buy the best I can straight off rather than a few cheap mistakes.
I have seen GreytSweaters (is it ok to name brands? ) and they look great. Is this type of coat/sweater ok to leave on during the night while it is still a bit nippy?
Secondly is there anything I need to get and may have overlooked? (bought - kosipet bed, bowl, house collar, toy, chews, brush)

hi there - how exciting waiting for your houndie to come home! Ok - when we got both Vinny and Gracie Lu we got the normal rain coat (which is probably what you will be given) and then we also bought one of the warmer coats too - I would call them fleece material though they're not as thick - I'm sure it has a proper name but I can't remember what it is (sorry having a senior moment) They didn't cost a fortune and when it gets really cold we double coat them to go out and that does the trick Now with regards to overnight I'm not sure the coats would work - so perhaps the greyt sweater might be a good option Have you seen the fabulous greyhound jumpers that rubyshoes has been mkaing to sell? If you just search for the thread 'Greyhound jumpers' it will come up. We bought our two greyhound pyjamas - and aside from making us laugh our bits off at them ;D they do work wonders at keeping them warm (especially Gracie Lu - as there is nothing of her - she is a petite little thing) Ok - I have burbled on here Sounds to me like you have all the bits and pieces you and your houndie need Don't forget a second bowl for water and always keep an old towel close by the door and/or in the back of the car - very handy (we just don't throw away our old towels and put big 'D's on them so we know they're the dogs!) Am sure other people will have more thoughts on anything else that might be necessary The main thing is to enjoy having your houndie as part of the family - beware - they are very addictive! Can't wait to hear how things go Yippee! Sarah x

Hi, I got Fizz the black snood coat. It's been through wind, rain and snow and kept her lovely and warm and dry. I think it cost about £2o. I got it from Pat.

The coat in the Greyhoundhomer shop is a good buy, nice and warm and has snood built in. Scroll down the page here: www.greyhoundhomer.co.uk/shop.htm we have one of those for the extra cold days, a water proof lined wax coat which covers a bit less, that's in addition to the one provided when we give a hound a home!

you will need an id disc as this is the law that you must have one, ideal to get two one for the house collar and one for the lead and collar, grooming rakes that we sell are ideal for grooming and getting rid of the dead hair have lots of fun pat

Betty also has the snood coat. She also has a single duvet (a cheap basic range one) and several duvets covers (cast off ones from my daughter) which she has as a bed. I can definately recommend the grroming rakes (available from Pat). You seem to have everything you need - a very exciting time for you

i use a fleese blanket for prince at night he doesn`t get to hot or to cold and he snuggles up and stays under it all night. also with the id tag i was told never to put your hounds name on it only a contact number and on the reverse chipped ( thats if you don`t have a green tag from the vets) and if your grey is chipped, but i do think you have the basics covered good luck.

Ah - see - I knew everyone else would have fab ideas! The comb Pat mentions is awesome - Vinny would stand and let you use it on him all day if he could ;D Oh yes - they have an old duvet too - and the duvet covers are cast offs (they have some rather funky ones actually!) You are going to have one very lucky houndie as a new family member x

Ah thanks again everyone !! Great tips & kindness.
I am so excited. It has been a long process of thinking and planning. I was ill for years and my husband thought it best for us to not have a dog . Things have changed a lot , I'm well and happy and only working part time so everything has come around.
I have always loved greys and it has been great to find out so much about them and finally know one is joining our nest !!
