I'm a complete novice in the world of greyhounds, and without wishing to upset anyone this is my own personal observation.
Racing greyhounds are a commodity, good ones, when fit, can be money making machines.
If the machine is damaged what happens then? Perhaps it can be repaired but it will never be as efficient again - you then have options (including) stud fees, offspring or pts.
But what if you have an ok dog, nothing special? Then I would suspect the decision is pts because it is no longer financially viable.
Lots of dogs are retired injured and lots come through the doors of Greyhoundhomer and other rehomers - thank God they are there for them.

Bert suffered from a broken hock, his trainer let it heal for three months an he raced another 80races!!!! I just think it's pathetic that he didn't treat the poor young girl then give her to a greyhound kennel....or say to there neares kennel, take her or she gets PTS!!!! I'm sure someone would of taken her....things like this really annoy mr :-( Sonny retired late for a greyhound, but at the end of his career, he was ran, knowingly lame. That poor boy. Would love to get all those concerned. Knee cap them. Starve a pack of Rottweilers for a few days. Then let the poor excuses for humans on the track, then let the Rotties out. Now that is what i call entertainment ;D ****-holes. I would pay good money to see that, as long as it went towards greyhound rescue ;D

Hi Sarah, I don't think your ignorant or come across as ignorant just because you dont know why a hound has been put to sleep, I havent seen the programe you were refering too and wouldnt like to judge on something I dont know. but wanted to say keep asking your questions It's how we learn.
