please be very careful if you use extendable leads with greyhounds, i have today had calls from 3 people who have really hurt themselves using extendable leads, the dog tends to jerk very quickly and the owner then has no control,i personally would advise do not use these leads with any dog unless the dog is that laid back it will not pull under any circumstances, they are extremely dangerous for the dog and for yourselves, i would go as far to say that any greyhound would not be completely safe on one of these unless of course he was like Marys Ben, so laid back as to be horizontal pat

I've had an incident where a labrador running full pelt on a fully extended extendible lead ran in front of Lou and tripped her up very badly - she got wrapped in the lead and the woman let go of the handle end which then whacked Lou on the rebound. I wasn't too happy about it, but the woman couldn't see that letting her dog run full pelt on the end of a thin invisible 20 foot lead was a bad thing "sigh"

I agree with Pat, even though our Sean is laid back he does get excited when other dogs are running off the lead because he wants to go and run with them, if he were on an unlocked extendible lead he'd no doubt give my arm a good wrenching and would possibly damage his neck.

Hi. Yes I would agree with everything said about extendible leads as I came a cropper on Monday whilst out walking Trevor. We were messing around running gently in the park and for a while I kept up with him, but then all of a sudden Trevor forgot that I could'nt run at 42mph and pulled me over. I fell very heavy onto the deck and knocked myself for a while. so I am supporting a very sore eye and cheek and a thumping headache at the mo! But out of the bad came some good as I found out that Trevor came back to me when I called him even though he was enjoying his moment of freedom bless his heart.

i used an exstendable lead when we first got prince, it was handy because it gave prince a little bit of freedom and he would always come back to my side. so when it was time to let him off the lead he came back to me on the recall.i think it is a good teaching tool but you do have to know how to use one.

I use an extendable lead with Mousha. She is fine on it and doesn't go to chase anything. However, I think she learnt her lesson when we first got her and I used to walk her on her proper lead. She went to chase a fox and took off at full pelt, thus nearly pulling my arm out of its socket! I screamed in pain and her walk ended there and then because I could hardly hold the lead! I think she felt so gulty that she hasn't gone to chase anything since, bless her! :-)
