I've been making houndie ice-cream - Archie, Henry and Alex have just tried it and it's passed their taste test, though I could argue that they don't have the most critical palates!
Here's my recipe if anyone else would liike to give it a go:
BASIC ICE CREAM MIXTURE
2 eggs
Half a pint of milk
180g greek yoghurt
Gently warm the milk in a saucepan - DO NOT allow to boil
Beat the eggs thoroughly
Pour the warm milk over the beaten eggs - whisk continuously
Pour the egg and milk mixture back into the saucepan and heat gently, whisking the whole time.
Heat until the mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon - DO NOT allow to boil or you'll just have scrambled eggs.
Pour the mixture back into the bowl and allow to cool for a few minutes
Add the yoghurt and whisk thoroughly
FRUITY ICE CREAM
Add a few drops of vanilla essence and a handful of your hound's favoruite chopped fruit to the mixture; whisk thoroughly
Pour into ice cube trays or small pots
Chill in the fridge for an hour then freeze
CHEESY ICE CREAM
While the basic mixture is warm, whisk in a 15g cube of boursin garlic & herb cheese
if you don't want to have any garlic then just whisk in a mini-tub of philadelphia and a sprinkle of your favourite herbs.
Then add a tablespoonful of finely grated parmesan cheese and whisk thoroughly
Pour into ice cube trays or small pots
Chill in the fridge for an hour then freeze
LIVER ICE CREAM
Put approx. 400g of liver in a saucepan
Cover with boiling water
Bring to the boil and simmer until cooked - around 20 minutes
Once cooked, drain the liquid from the liver - this liquid can be poured into ice-cube trays to make a savoury treat
Allow the liver to cool then put into a blender with a little of the cooking liquid - blend until reasonably smooth
Add the basic ice cream mixture and blend until smooth
Pour into ice cube trays or small pots
Chill in the fridge for an hour then freeze
Note: On a warm day you can cool the mixtures quickly by standing the mixing bowl in a basin of iced water.
Enjoy
