Before you read on, Lily is fine But we had a horrible incident yesterday with a road drain. I've been super careful about road drains but yesterday evening a removal van was parked across our driveway/usual crossing spot. We were crossing behind it and I thought I was between her and the drain, but as I tried to look to see if the road was clear Lily stepped sideways with her back end and her whole right back leg dissapeared down the drain. Thank goodness she didn't panic and quietly got her balance and pulled her leg out. There was a few moments when she stood there holding her leg up, it was the worst few moments ever. I stood with her thinking the worst, running through my brain if it would be better to scoop her up and carry her to the vets (only a few roads away) or ask a neighbour to drive her. Then she put her weight back on her leg, limped for a few strides and then started doing her usual walkies trot. We decided to wait till the morning to take her to the vets as she wasn't lame and didn't seem in pain. The vet gave her the all clear, with a little bruising and a tiny graze. The fact Lily was ok was only because she didn't panic and the drain she fell through was an unusually wide one at the edge of the drain. I guess I'm sharing because I thought I was so aware of road drains and there potential danger for our greyhounds skinny legs, but I still screwed up. I would say stay at least a 2 meter distance at all times, Incase your greyhound turns unexpectantly or like us from now on at least 5meters. We had luck on our side yesterday and thank goodness X
