Frank has been with us here in Trondheim, Norway for a week tomorrow. At the moment he is sleeping under his duvet drying up after his shower.
He is doing amazingly well, and has already adjusted to our schedule. We started already day 1 leaving him for shorter periods of time, just to let him know we always come back when we leave, and that us leaving means he gets a treat. When he is on his own he sleeps for most of the day, roams around the flat and enjoys his peanut butter Kong.
Because he will be on his own while we are at work, we have set up a dog monitor to keep an eye on him real-time. The camera has a blind spot which is the lounge end of our sofa, and we have a feeling he spends hours on it looking out through the windows. He refuses to go on the sofa when we are home... Naughty "little" monkey!
On walks he does great, too. He walks next to us most of the time, but lets us know if we are not walking fast enough. He finds other dogs and people really exciting, but we shorten the lead and are working on the "heel" command. We have met different breeds, from little Poms to husky puppies - and even a whippet! He sniffs and is interested, and whines if the other dog doesn't take to him. We tell him not to take it personally, here in Norway he is considered a gentle giant!
Because the greyhound is so rare he gets lots of attention when we walk him through town, we have even had strangers stop and take pictures of him
The goal is to socialize him with the other sighthounds in the area, as the local sighthound club does regular walks around town which we will join in on. Only one other Greyhound as far as we know, but lots of whippets, a few salukis and some galgos:)
Also looking forward to seeing him run (eventually). There is a fenced dog park near us which we will take him to, but we're not rushing him. For now he'll zoom around the house chasing his squeaky fox.
Here's a few picks of Frank in his new environment. Thanks again to Pat and everyone at Dunton for all your help and support!
