Our beloved Nellie is 11 years old today! She is the most wonderful dog.
She has certainly seemed an old girl lately, but more concerning she began to get very stiff in the limbs and limp quite badly when getting up and had lost most of her mojo. The vet said it was arthritis and prescribed painkillers. She managed short walks in the morning, returning home before the other two.
I remembered reading (in a dog magazine) about a Labrador who got relief from a magnetic collar. (I have also successfully used magnets for a spinal condition). So we got her such a collar, delivered (while we were on holiday) last Wednesday and by Friday she had stopped limping! This morning she was bouncing for a time in the woods and even belted down the garden with Willow. I don't understand how these things work, but they have made a real difference to Nellie's quality of life, long may it continue!
I have no shares in the company, but we got a magnetic collar by a company called Bioflow and I wanted to share this with other owners of senior greyhounds, it has made such a difference!

Hello
we have an 11 year old who is having back leg problems especially getting up and wanting shorter walks. I wondered how it went longer term with the magnetic collar. When we saw the vet, he wasn't sure if it was arthritis or a nervous thing..?
Thanks

Hiya Yoga
Unfortunately, we lost Nellie last autumn, she had pancreatic problems and then liver failure. But she did wear her magnetic collar until the end and it did really help with the arthritis.
In fact, the collar is now being warn by one of our other hounds (Brennan), who will be 10 in September, as he was getting a bit stiff in the back legs. It has helped him, too. In fact it's quite a sight to see when he occasionally leaps about chasing his tail!
As in my original post, I have also found magnets useful for me!
Good luck, hope if you get one it will really help.

Sorry to hear that - it's hard when Greyhounds get old and things stop working even though their minds are fine... I have ordered one in case it will help and Yogi has a check up with the Vet today to see if there's any other recommendations... Many thanks for your help and quick reply :-)

Wow, that's great news about Mollie Alice, so glad the magnets helped her, long may it continue. I remember her from way back when she shared a kennel with our boy Brennan, they were 2 nervous hounds together! She was such a pretty dog!
