I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to how we can stop Scruff from nibbling. He only ever does it when he's excited such as getting home from work, running around the garden with him or putting his lead on for a walk. It doesn't hurt and he normally just does this continuous nibble on your hands but sometimes he'll put his mouth around our arms (like he's biting us except he isn't!). My partner and I don't mind it as like i say it's generally very gentle but he doesn't just do it to us but also family and friends (that he's met a few times before) and some of those aren't at all keen. Any ideas on how we can stop it?

We've had dogs that muth and nubble - it's a behavour that needs to be controlled as it's so easily misconstrued by others - though it's not a malicious behaviour! I found this link which summarises what we did: positively.com/dog-behavior/nuisance-behaviors/nipping/It's a question of being consistent - rewarding good behaviour and not reinforcing undesirable behaviour. Good luck!
