Hi All
J.D has a slight limp every so often. I`m not sure if he may of pulled something as I have checked his pads with a fine tooth comb and cannot find any puncture holes or cracks in his pads. J.D was let off lead for the very first time 9 days ago and 4 days later started to limp one evening. since then he has limped since today about 4 times. I`m wondering could it be the certain floors he is walking on he finds uncomfortable. I find when he has been for his longer walks (hr 1/2) that is when he limps even tho we do rest half way. I do have Meticam but think if I give him it, it will only mask the pain he might be in. I do not wish to manipulate his joints as I do not want to hurt him, plus I`m not sure what I am feeling for. Do you think I should take to the vets for some anti inflamitaries and see if the vets might see something that I cannot? or just put on short walks for a little longer and see if it rights it self? Thanks in advance.

Hi Diane
I'd say there's no harm in giving him a dose of metacam until you get him to the vet (like tonight if he's uncomfortable).
The limp is probably just a muscle strain from unaccustomed exercise, but always worth checking with the vet sooner rather than later. Our Ty walked around on a broken toe for 3 weeks because he limped for a day or so, then seemed to get better so I didn't bother with the vet, then the proverbial hit the fan a couple of weeks later - big mistake! :-p

D'oh - I meant that there's no harm in giving him a dose of metacam to maje him comfortable overnight. I'm sure he doesn't need a vet tonight :-p

Glad that you took him to the vet - so glad that it's just a pulled muscle - a bit of rest and anti-inflammatory should see him right :-)
He'll just have to be more careful and pace himself at these meet 'n greets :-)

I was anxious just making the call, but was relieved it was only a pulled muscle. shall have to teach J.D the Roma and Darcy way, flop on a comfy bed and let everyone come to him for the fuss lol.

The first time Darcy developed an unexplained limp our local vet went to town and he did all the tests including x-rays. The insurance covered it thankfully but the company has now excluded any issues with that leg from the policy!
When the limp persisted Bob had a look at him and pronounced that he was a woss and had probably bruised his pad. We applied liniment to the foot and it cleared up. Now when our two develop a limp (which does not happen often) we make sure there is no obvious cause on their pads, restrict their walks for a few days and see what happens. So far liniment and rest seems to have sorted the problem.
Darcy certainly does not do energetic meet and greets.
