Dear Pat
I am afraid I have to inform you that we lost Bryn (was Remus) on 15 October. Please accept my apologies for the delay in telling you but it is only now I feel up to typing this very sad message to you, even though I'm fighting back the tears.
Earlier this year, Bryn became very sick suddenly, with what the Vets believed to be Aspiration Pneumonia. I paid for many tests, x-rays and medicines and he received treatment for several weeks. Fortunately he became better, but was never the same again. He was very wheezy after his zoomies on walks and we had to restrict his running, although he wanted to, because of my concern for his lungs.
However, on the very day I paid the last payment with the Vets for his treatment in October, Bryn became suddenly unwell again with similar symptoms. I rushed him to the Vets and she confirmed that it looked like he had the same condition again. She put him on the same course of treatment and if he was to get worse, to go back. I administered his meds and took his temperature at certain intervals that day but he wasn't responding as we had hoped. The next morning, he was worse, so I took him back to the Vets. She prepared me for the worst. She gave Bryn more stronger meds and I took him home again. Unfortunately, a while later, he started violently vomiting very dark liquid, a few times and got worse and worse. He couldn't even stand or walk and was shaking badly. It got to the point where I knew he was not in a good place. After school, my son came with me and we arranged to say goodbye to him at our lovely Vets. He tried to fight at the end but was gravely ill with an extraordinarily high fever. My son and I cuddled him, held and kissed him until we had to leave. My daughter, son and I were distraught. One of my other dogs absolutely adored him and it took her many days for her to get over losing him.
Bryn was an absolute delight to have in our family. We all absolutely adored him. He was such a character, so silly and funny. He loved to 'talk' and do the 'Brynny moonwalk'. We miss him so much and our lives will never be the same again. We are so grateful though for finding him - he enriched our lives. Thank you again for allowing us to welcome him into our family. One day, I definitely want to have a greyhound or two again, but no more dogs for the foreseeable future. Its going to take me a while to get over losing Bryn.
As a gesture, I have donated a small amount to the charity (will show up as Elizabeth Blackstock I think - my old married name).
Kind regards
