Sadly my friend who I help with the walking of her Greyhounds three days per week has had to have one of them PTS, Cleo was 12 years old and had Spondylitis. Spondylitis is inflammation of the vertebra and my friend Liz hadn't heard of it in relation to dogs, I Googled it and it seems to be an Arthritis connected illness. There's some reading about the condition here: www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/spondylosis-deformans-in-dogs/2141I forgot to add to this that on Friday when we all went out for our usual walk she wasn't very happy, and I had to lift her into the car for the journey back to her house, this was unusual, although she has never been that keen to get in the car, she has always managed it by herself. She also refused a small treat which I always split in half for the two hounds - very unusual as well because she is a real foodie. So at the moment her other Greyhound, Troy, isn't very happy. I'm not sure whether she'll get another bitch, but I hope she does, and if she does it will be an older hound since older hounds will suit her better since they usually have a bit less energy than the younger ones.

My first dog Honey had Spondylitis - very painful, though she was a whippet/terrier cross and too daft to take the rest she needed. We were able to control it and she eventually died of cancer (many years ago) but I'll never forget when she was first diagnosed with the spondylitis - thought we were going to lose her there and then!
Sorry to hear the news about Cleo - so distressing, especially when there's a hound left behind...
