Daisy seems to be having trouble with the whole 'peeing outside' thing. George has it sussed, has no probs and asks to go out when he needs to. We bicarb and vinegared the carpet, so it doesn't smell like his wee, but since Daisy has been here she has done nothing but tiddle on the carpet. We let her out every hour, but this evening she came back in to pee on the carpet. She only goes outside if George does, and then she pees on his pee . She has also been mounting George much to our confusion . Bit confused really. Any help/ advice greatly appreciated. Stephanie

With the mounting thing and her peeing on his pee, she's asserting her dominance over him. Possibly the peeing indoors is too.
There are sprays you can buy that deter a dog peeing in the house. If you catch her peeing then do something she doesn't like. Drop something noisy (large set of keys or a tin with some stones in) or, if you're quick, squirt her with water.

Thanks Wolf. Thought it might be a dominance thing, but wasn't sure as i've not seen it this way round. She is 18 months older than he is, but she is so much smaller than him and has been very nervous of sleeping near him and he does tend to 'herd' her out of his way (easy when you're 10kgs heavier like he is). Will get a water spray on standby and see what I can pick up in pets at home on Saturday. We clearly had it easy with George

We had it very easy with Vinny - he's only peed in the house once since we got him (August last year) Madam on the other hand is exactly like Daisy in that respect (not the mounting and she doesn't pee on Vinny's pee) BUT she does often come straight in from the garden and pee. However she also goes when we aren't watching! Unfortunately this then makes the whole 'water spray' thing difficult to maintain She has chosen an allocated area which we seem to spend a lot of time scrubbing and cleaning. Even the detergent smells doesn't seem to stop her We're really not sure what to do...... x

George had just a few accidents in the hall, but is totally fine now. Miss Daisy on the other hand has decided to pee the entire length of our hall, which runs the whole length of our flat. Vinegar and bicarb hasn't worked, nor has the most powerful detergent I can find that specialises in removing doggy pee smells. Next step... Rip up the carpet

Our vet sells a special spray for covering wee smells and deterring repeat offences - it's called 'odour eliminator' and is made by a company called 'pet health care'.
It seems to be quite effective and we don't have trouble with them wee-marking in the house.
If the weeing problem is new then it might be worth talking to the vet - Lou started weeing indoors overnight (not like her at all) and we found that it was because she had a bladder/kidney infection.

i do always tell people do use a pet deodoriser as all the others ie detergents, disanfectants still leave the urine smell for the dog and they will keep going because they think it is okay, bevcause the smell is still there, use a good pet deodoriser and very firm words and it will stop very quickly pat

good tip for making sure you get all of the wee is to buy a blacklight. they are readily available from many shops eg maplin etc and are not too stupid a price. Turn all of the lights off and put the blacklight on, it will show up any residual wee in a virtually neon glow
best of luck
