My gorgeous perfect Bertie was PTS today at 3:30. Absolutely heartbroken. Bertie was more than my dog, he was my friend- always there for me when people weren't and his unconditional love was amazing. He had liver problems that were diagnosed last month and on Saturday he went downhill, he had a strong painkiller injected to try and encourage him to eat and become more comfortable but it just wasn't to be. I think everyone will remember berts beautiful eyes that looked right into your soul. He was perfect with the jack Russell's and the perfect uncle to the puppies we had. Couldn't fault my bert and he will forever be in my heart. He went on surrounded by love and was stroked, kissed and held throughout. Gonna miss you boy x

Oh Cassie, I'm so very sorry to hear the sad news about Bertie.
I used to love reading your threads about him on the forum and hearing about all his antics and I remember when you got the JR how they became great pals. He had a fantastic home and was so loved by you.
Run freee Bertie at Rainbow Bridge

Looked out the window last night and saw a bright meteor -made us think it was Bertie as there were no others all night. Scamp and Lilly have been looking for bert this morning and slept on his bed yesterday. Think as a family we have woken up feeling sad still but knowing that we did the right thing. Thank you all for your kind messages, miss him to the moon and back but time is a great healer x

Such a sad loss and made even more poignant with Bertie one day away from his birthday. He would have been ten today, such a young age for a greyhound to pass on. There is no doubt these greyhounds get under your skin and make your life complete, but it also made Bertie's life complete as well. I bet he's at the Rainbow Bridge right now telling everyone what a wonderful life he had as a pet dog. He was one of the loved lucky one's, if only every greyhound could meet a Cassie.

My heart goes out to you. These guys become such a major part of one's life and when it's time to go they leave such a void. Bertie has met up with so many of his friends he probably has a big smile on his face!! Dave and, of course, Ted and Kia. xx

Thankyou. I woke up feeling sad and have felt like this throughout the day. Lilly and scamp have been searching for him all day. I've held it together for my mum as she is so upset and if I breakdown then she will to I sat on his bed last night and just cried. Bertie was such a true fighter, he suffered from a broken hock during his career and came fighting back winning more races when it was better, he got over mange and maltreatment and also got over a huge spindle cell tumor on his backside- he took all of this in his stride. If I can be any where near as strong as he has been then ill be happy. In his memory I will be having his ear marks "AP TDN" tattood onto my inner ankles in the same style his were. May seem drastic but he changed my life

Thank you, it has been a very hard week indeed. I donated some of his things to the kennels today- which was nice but also made me very upset. Still have his collar, lead and blanket. Never thought I'd miss him so much. The jack Russell's are still searching for him and sniffing his stuff which is heart breaking to see. Hopefully it gets easier x
