Hello Greyhound Forum,
My name is Lurch and my human Mum and Dad are Pia and Anthony. They rescued me a year ago and what a life of bliss I have now my racing days are over. They are busy at the moment and I'm not having a sleep on the sofa so I thought I'd write a diary post about my day out to the North Stifford Show on Saturday. I'm new to this so bear with me …
Mum got up nice and early Saturday morning and told me we was going to a show. I went last year but I was only a few weeks out of racing so it was all new to me and my first trip out after retiring from racing and being rehomed. Mum packed our bag with my supplies but forget to pack her own oops! So off we set and walked to the show ground. Soon as I got there I was so happy lots of Greyhounds for me to make new friends with. We went and saw Pat and Mary and said hello. My tail couldn't stop wagging and I was flashing the typical Greyhound smile
At 10am I was registered to take part in the 'Dogs aged 2-3' show. This was all new to me so I got spruced up (a quick brush) and then I listened out for my class to be called. Then I heard it 'Class 5 dogs aged 2 and 3. Ok here goes, little nervous and wanted to make Mum and Dad proud. Mum took me into the arena, there was me and Simon a blue Greyhound in the catergory with me. He was nice too. I went and saw the judge (very nice she was too) who checked my teeth, my fur and my feet. Then I walked around the arena to show the judge my walking and slow running. Wasn't used to running so slow!
I then stood and waited for the results to be announced. Simon came first and well done to him and I came second. I was so pleased never been in a show before and was great as it was my first time. Mum was pleased I was given a nice blue rosette which was put on my collar which I wore throughtout the day.
Because I did well Mum said I could visit the Homemade Treat stall - Yummy! This is where I met Twiggy a lovely little female Greyhound and she was brindle to just like me. Even better that her human Mum makes the homemade treats. I got three different bags of treats which I am still enjoying now, only 2 left though.
We walked around the show ground to see what else was on offer and I knew there was a reason Mum forget her lunch so she could visit the BBQ. She can be a sneaky one sometimes but I love her lots and she looks after me. It then decided to pour down with rain Oh no and the sun had been shining all day. All the Greyhounds rushed under the shelter that Pat had put up by the stall and took shelter until it stopped. That will teach me for not reminding Mum to take my raincoat.
After the rain stopped Mum took me to eneter another show! Honestly, I thought I'm all new to this and not one but two shows. This time it was a fun class - 'Handsome Male.' In we walked again I wasn't as nervous as I'd already done it before. There must have been another 8 or 9 Greyhounds in there with me so was tough competition. I was the nice judge again who had a look at my face. She announced the placings and I won again This time I came third because she liked my black nose. I was given another rosette this time a yellow one which I added to my collection on my collar. Mum was very happy. I was getting a little tired now but as I was good in the shows Mum took me to the stall and bought me a new collar and lead. A very nice light blue colour it is too. Thanks Mum! Every penny counts to help the RGT for all their hard work and dedication to rehoming all us retired racing Greyhounds. We then said goodbye and went home, I wore my rosettes the whole way home. Once I got home I had a couple of homemade treats and then setlled myself on the sofa for a nice long nap.
I made loads of new Greyhound friends Prince, Houdini and Ted to name a few and saw some old pals too. Me and Mum had a great day and I can't wait for next year now. Thanks Pat and team for all your hard work I can't wait for the next trip out now.
