The large middle pad on one of Lyras back paws is very cracked and is also peeling. It is tender if I touch it but she isn't limping. Should I be worried and how can I treat it? Thanks Rachael Attachments:

Hi Rachael in our kennel we use sudocrem on the pads to keep them soft and supple or you can use vaseline which has the same effect anything that will soften will help. pat

Rachael having looked at the big picture it looks more than cracked feet it looks as though it has been sliced on something, plenty of hibbyscrub and sudocrem in the gaps, it looks as though it will take quite a time to bond together, but just make sure it is always clean and put the sudocrem right in the gap pat

Ted sliced his pad on something sharp and I immediately applied Sudocrem. It's already made a difference as I can tell by the fact he is not limping. It seems that pads don't bleed much so any injury can be overlooked if they are not checked daily.

Hi EVERYONE
Tommy has 2 cracked pads on his foot I am treating with sudocrem. I am concerned that when we are out and about he might get some grit in it. would you advise putting a balloon boot on until it heals?, I do have another boot to put on but it is not water proof and at the mo its raining.

Hi Tommy :-)
I think that either boot (or even a sock) would keep gript out of the cracks.
I'm wondering whether a neoprene type boot might work best because of the added padding - it will keep grit out of the cracks but I wouldn't worry about the pads getting wet, especially if you put sudocrem on before going out - it's an effective barrier cream...
The balloons are great but they don't give much padding - hmmm - bit of testing needed - let us know how you get on!
