I have just joined the site. Later today I am off to walk two boys to see how things go. I am a little anxious that I will be doing the right thing adopting a retired greyhound to be honest. I met both these boys a few days ago and am going back to see how things go when I take them for a good walk, hopefully then I will be able to choose between them.
I just hope they will be able to fit into my lifestyle here and not be too stressed. Slightly nervous but also very excited. Will let you know how it goes.

Greyhounds don't ask for much - comfy beds, food, unconditional love - anything else is a bonus!
I respect your concerns- it probably means that you'll make a wise and considered decision i.e. the right one.
We got our first greyhound (3rd rescue dog) back in 2006 - we've rehomed another five since (long story) - they are utterly adorable and we've loved every minute of it!

The team at Ockenden will give you all the advice you need to make the right decision. Greyhounds are very adaptable, after a life of racing they need nothing more than a sofa, cuddles and feeding. Patrick is our 2nd greyhound and we would not change him for the world. Good luck with your walk and choice!

You have made a great choice! Remember that there are loads of people here who will give you advice and support you all the way. You will soon realize what a joy greyhounds are and as for fitting into your lifestyle that's never a problem. As has already been said - a comfy bed, food and loads of love is all they ask for. In return you will get unconditional love and lots of good times. Good luck!

Well I have been and walked the lads, both fab but I have made my decision and will be going back on Monday to bring him home. His name is Vancouver Buck and he is a lovely BIG blue boy. On my way home I have just been shopping to get him some things!!! It's all good. Thanks for the supportive comments folks, no doubt I will be back on here asking for loads of advice!!!!

A lot of the people on this site have homed their dogs from either Ockendon or Bishops Stortford. That said, a lot of people have homed from other RGT branches and elsewhere - all are welcome.
You will find useful advise on the forum, don't be afraid to ask if you have a problem. People on here are a great bunch, very helpful. Where you will miss out because of the distance are the fundraising events which take place during the summer and the social events.

Good news that another grey will find it's forever home, I always thought I would have German shepherd when I eventually got another dog, then I got involved with racing greyhounds it was the best move I ever made, I had Bart from racing, then Mersey, when we lost Bart we got Beau they are the best, as previously said they don't want for much just cuddles kisses a loving home and they give so much love back. Look forward to hearing and seeing how he gets on. You will always find so much help and advice on this forum if you feel you need it. Chris

This is a lovely forum that welcomes anyone from anywhere as long as there is a greyhound involved. Good luck with bringing Mr. Buck home. Be prepared for a few days of his bewilderment at his new surroundings and maybe a little accident - don't worry he will soon settle and be the bestest of pets and definitely man's best friend. Keep us posted and pictures too. By the way if you want to see more about Vancouver Buck's background, parents, races etc. you can find him on www.greyhound-data.com
