I am devastated to report that we had to have Poppy put to sleep at 4.30am - she became very unwell at 3am and started having partial seizures, affecting her face and neck, every few minutes. She did not respond to diazepam so we took her to the vet and after a thorough discussion we decided that although we might be able to control the seizures with phenobarbitone, there was too much damage in her brain to give her a meaningful recovery. She never recovered fully from the seizures she had on Sunday morning.
It was a merciful and peaceful end, though we are so very sad - she enjoyed her life with us with such gusto - she was a hound with real verve and spirit - it's tragic that she didn't have more time to enjoy her new life
Poppy lived with us for just 15 weeks, but what an impact she has made. It was a joy and a privilege to share our home with her and although it's been a very emotional journey, I don't regret fostering her for one moment.
Although Ollie and Poppy remained close, they had become more independent of each other once they were out of danger and adversity. Ollie joined the upstairs pack some weeks ago and has bonded well to both Lou and Ty. I'm hoping that Ollie will cope with the loss of Poppy and live for many happy years with us - fingers crossed.
Poppy's favourite occupation was eating - I hope she's at the rainbow bridge with Blue and Lynx, scoffing from some divine eternally-refilling bowl of hot chicken! Rest easy sweet girl....

Oh Sue, I'm so sorry I know it's never much comfort but those 15weeks were probably the most happy and contented in her life. She is so lucky to have found you to take her on

Oh no Sue, that's very upsetting news, but you have given her so much love in the time she was with you, and isn't suffering anymore with her ever filling bowl of hot chicken.
Hope you and the other houndies are ok.

Sue and Richard, I'm so sorry for Poppy, and for you, and all you have suffered. None of you deserved this heartache, and all I can say is thank you. Thank you for all the love and time you have given to little Poppy, and the breed in general.
Someone said to me once, that time is not the same for dogs as it is for us. I'm not sure how that works, or what it means, but I'm sure she had a lifetime of happiness with you, and whatever happened to her before, will have been forgotten in your love. She will be with you all in spirit. Love and hugs to you all. Hazel xx

So very sad to read this post.
Poppy was a lucky girl - you gave her a home in a time of need; you nursed her, you gave her a happy but short home life.
RIP Poppy, run free at Rainbow Bridge.

So sorry to hear about Poppy she sounded an absolute fighter and you know as we all do when you have to make that decision it's always the right one for them but not for us. She was so lucky to have found you and spent her last weeks very happy. If she loved her food then I am sure she will find Bart on rainbow bridge he will look after her and they can all run with their friends together. Chris x
