Kaka the cat died this week, old age and in his sleep. I mention him here as he tamed two greyhounds, jeddie and Ozzie, and right up until his last day was keeping them in line. He certainly used most of his 9 lives: as a kitten he had feline enteritis & was expected to die but helen nursed him and bottle fed him. He strangled himself on a dressing gown cord & was saved just in time. He was attacked by a fox. He was run over.. Twice. He was picked up by the head by both jeddie and Ozzie(that started the fight back) and had most of his teeth removed! A miserable old man of a cat but entertaining and a character. RIP Kaka 1999-2012.

Sorry to hear Kaka has 'departed this mortal coil' (to use Del Boys venacular). It sounds like he had a very eventful life, far more so than either of our two. A cat that tamed two Greys has to have something about them though...one of ours has put Sean in his place numerous times. However his actions were unnecessary since Sean has never done him any harm, fortunately Sean had clearly learnt a long time before we had him that cats = claws = pain...LOL! RIP Kaka!

thanks Mark. Kaka was a great advert for cats & Greys, though they both went for him when they were new to the house, he soon put them right. After a while they all shared a bed or sofa, and if Kaka wanted to eat their food, then they would form a queue behind him until he was satisfied. ;D Likewise, they would wait behind him until he had finished his dinner before they had his leftovers! Not all Greys can be cat-friendly, but I reckon with the right training and patience, a lot more can be than most people think.

So sorry to learn of the loss of your much loved family cat.
While we love our greyhounds, many of us have pets who already had their paws under the table but accept and bond with each new arrival. Unlikely friendships develop and I am sure Ozzie and Jeddy will miss Kaka just as much as you.

Again, thank you all for the kind words. He truly was a miserable Victor Meldrew of the cat world, but could be very affectionate. It was a 3 way race between him and the dogs when the food cupboard was opened. Helen's just told me that Jeddie keeps looking in his room (we assigned the box room as Kakas sanctuary from the hounds). Quite sad, Jeddie spent 4 years living with him and probably recognised him as the Animal Boss of the house. Thanks again. Stuart

Sorry to hear about the death of your cat, how sad. Sounds like he did indeed have 9 lives and Jeddie & Ozzie are missing him. Despite being so different from dogs, I do think greys and cats have quite a lot in common (sleeeping for England, finding the sunniest/hot spots in the sun, chasing rodents!)
We had a cat who was grumpy and quite viscious when young, but was lovely when old.
Run free at Rainbow Bridge, as Sarah says, I'm sure he'll be putting greys there in their place!
