Hey guys,
Since we had the snow couple of weeks ago, Olly has taken it upon himself to frantically wipe his back and front paws on the ground after each teeny pee! It's hilarious to watch and he looks at me all hurt as I do burst into laughter as he does a little weird jump in between...... I took him out yesterday with my partner and low and behold he didn't do it once making me look like a liar! Just took him out again on my own tonight and there he was again doing mini marks up every possible tree and dancing around like a dad at a disco!!
I'm thinking it's a scent marking thing, but why just with me?? Wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience??
Thanks Andrea

Sounds like it's really funny, Andrea. Not heard of back wiping, unless this as if to roll on something, which is usually really disgusting and having come from the back end of a fox (our 2 previous dogs did this sometimes- megga yuk!) But male dogs often throw their back legs up, which I think is to do with scent marking and spreading. But strange his behaviourr is with you and started after the snow. The snow does seem to make them skittish and the scents around seem to be more marked somehow afterwards, my 2 are like bloodhounds lateley always sniffing.

Hi Sue, thanks for message. You're so right re the snow, it must be a lot harder for them to sniff things out so over. Opens atone for it now. We can see yellow snow a million miles away!!
Yuck re the fox poop, it stinks anyway let alone having to wash it off the dog, phewy.....
He did the foot kicking thing in the garden this morning so think its going to be a "ollyism" from now on! I remember one of the big boy dogs in the kennels used to do it when I took him out, he was renowned!
Will have to get a little video of him doing it as such a giggle

if you mean that once he wees he is kicking up the ground that is a sign he is really feeling fit and well, it is something we look for to see a dog is feeling really healthy pat

Lou, being top girl, does the kickng thing - especially when she's feeling happy and well.
She has lots of problems with her joints/muscles though and once kicked back so hard she managed to pull one of the weak muscles on her bad back leg! She says it was worth it though - just to show everyone in the park who's boss :-)

Baby does the kicking thing after a wee too.She does make me laugh because she'll do it then pause and i'll ask her "have you finished?" which starts off another round of grass and mud flying ;D

Oh wow, I never knew that dogs kick their back legs after doing a pee when they are feeling really good. I'm so pleased to hear this because Mousha does it all the time!! It cracks me up - and Sarah, Mousha too literally 'kicks' off' again when I ask her if she has finished!! lol

No one wants to stand behind Sean after he's got his jobs done...those that do risk being covered in wee or poo! LOL! Sean often gets a bit 'frisky' immediately after number twos, I guess he's just pleased with himself.

Simon always has a kick back after a wee or poo followed by a celebratory run!

I love hearing these stories and pleased to hear its due to him being happy and healthy, he certainly seems to be. Getting on for 6 months at home now so he's certainly found his "home legs".
So funny re the poop one, knowing the size of those that ollys lays I would not want to be on the receiving end of that :0)

Cass does all the kicking and scraping stuff, the birds don't mind when moss and grass fly out of the lawn. I call her my !!!! machine, I'm sure more comes out than goes in. I weigh her food so know how much goes in but haven't got round to weighing output YET.

Yvonne I can't agree with you more! Ollys first one of the day is def a 2 hander double bagger, no wonder he's so agitated to get out the front door, it must weigh half of him :0)

I have a friend who owns 2 greyhounds and did work out how much poo one dog does in a year. He worked it out to be 1/2 a ton per dog per year. I didn't like to ask what scales he used to way it on......
