Hi all, has anyone ever heard of using a chamois leather on their Grey's coat to bring up a shine? Just wondering if it's okay to do this, if it works and how often? Thank you.

I don't know about chamois leather but velvet is very good for bringing out the shine. I used to make velvet pads and sell them for Dobie Rescue but I don't have a sewing machine now. I wonder if those micro cloths would work?

If the chamois leather doesn't work as a gloss it will do as a tug toy - being leather and smelling faintly of goat :-)

Oh dear, Have I being doing something wrong, I've been using boot polish and elbow grease?!! LOL! I remember someone ages ago saying silk was also good for their coats--- silk, velvet, who says these hounds aren't' pampered?

Don't - my mum acts as a charity collection point and she gets all sorts of stuff handed in - I'm opposed to wearing fur but when she got some real ermine coats given to her I tried to get hold of them because they'd make really soft dog bed for Ty on the boat! Principles - what principles? I was saved because my mum wouldn't let me have the fur coat for a dog bed, even though I offered to pay!!!

If your hound has a duvet you could buy a lined velvet curtain from a charity shop and slip the duvet inside, they could polish themselves as they sleep and dream. Our Dobies used to lay on a velvet cover on our settee and they gleamed.

Hi, thank you. I found some velvet mitts on ebay, so will try one of those. Yvonne, I also found some micro fibre ones, but used for horses. They might be all right to use on dogs, not sure though. Does anyone know if it's true that Greyhounds have very little oil in their skin? (Read the web too much) It would explain Fizz's flaky skin. Lee
