Hi all,
Last weekend we booked a little B&B cottage in Sea Palling, Norfolk. It is a very very quiet little villlage on the beautiful coast. The cottage was small but modern and clean, and 2 greys was not a problem for the owner. Jeddie & Ozzie had not been away with us before, and we wanted to let them run free on sand. After a 2 & a half hour drive, both dogs were fine. We had a quick walk the first evening on the beach, but on day 2 it was fanatastic! The tide was out and we went looking for seals, which are common on that part of the coast. Its a long, sandy coastline with only other dogwalkers around. Ozzie has never been off the lead due to his 'wandering' whereas Jeddie is good. We eventually found a part of the coast that had high breakwaters on either side of the 200m stretch of beach, and huge rocks behind us with only a tiny gap to keep an eye on.
Jed was off the lead first, then a deep breath an Ozzie was off too. Straight away he ran..& that heart-stopping moment when you think will he stop? He did, and Jeddie caught up with him, then they chased each other, so great to finally see. However, Ozzie not being used to playing off the lead didn't get the game, and Jeddie had to bounce around barking at him and play-nibbling his neck, but he just stood there like a fool. After a bit of encouragement he ran again for a while, but only alongside Helen as he's a complete Mummy's Boy. He loved the soft sand & whilst he has been to the dog park in southend off the lead, he never ran. We think the sand reminded him of his racing days, as he was literally bouncing like Tigger!
We also bumped in to a local guy with a lurcher and a grey. The lurcher was only 3 and he claims it keeps the 10 year old grey young as they run on the beach every day! Jeddie again wanted to play and was chasing after the lurcher, hard to believe Jeddie will also be 10 this year! She loves running still.
A great beach, we did see seals in the sea, and after a round walk of 6 miles, both dogs slept for hours afterwards (of course, only fair that they should re-carb on hotdogs, chinese, hotcross buns and chips.. ;D ) This is on top of the usual food.. but all that running is hungry work
I would recommend the area this time of year when dogs are allowed on the beach. The breakwaters and huge rocks make ideal natural barriers, and the sand is soft and a wide beach. If anyone wants the address, please PM me and I will be happy to provide. It was only £120 for 2 nights, with breakfasts, WIFI, Sky TV and more!
