Help! We adopted Santos, a 3yr 6m old male 2 weeks ago & he's absolutely fantastic apart from the fact that he has twice now emptied his bladder over our sitting room carpet (same part of the carpet, both times). He actually did it while I was in the room with him last night but by the time I had got the door open & shoe'd him out into the garden he was done! Santos had not given any indication that he needed to be let out - scratching the door or whining etc. My Wife had taken him for a 30 mins walk 2 hours before this incident.
We ARE walking him & taking him into the garden frequently. He's not showing signs of being anxious or stressed & he is in the best of health. He's a super dog & we love him to bits. We realise he is still new to our house, but his first week with us passed without any incident. Why has he started doing this & how can we get him to stop? Any advice gratefully rec'd!!
Many thanks, all. Stephen.

prince had a few accidents the first 2 weeks we got him, we told him off when we caught him in the act which i think when he was doing it he was inbarrassed. we cleaned up the wee when he wasn`t looking with a nuetral urine spray. we have a set routine for him to go out, but now if he needs to go out earlier he lets us know by barking. maybe taking him for longer walks might help, and when he is weeing out side praise him that outside is good and not inside.

Hi all, for the last two Mondays I go out shopping get in, I'll be in for about five minutes and Fizz'll wee indoors. Not only is she weeing indoors but she did it on my bed (last week) on her bed today.
I was only out for about two hours. Anyway I've washed it and cleaned it with deodorizer I got from pets at home. Could it be anxiety or a protest because I'm going out? Really not happy with this because she is house trained. The other morning she woke me to go out at 4.30, so she knows she has to go outside. Next time I go out I'll just let her out as soon as I get in so she can relieve herself. Apart from this is there anything else I can do please?

It could be behavioural but our vet reckons that around 90% of weeing incidents have a physical cause so it may be worth getting her checked out - both Lou and Lynx have had incidents in the last year and been treated for cystitis which solved the problem.
They always do things for a reason - the tricky bit is working out what their reason is - I wish they could talk human!
Good luck with it...

Hi lee it firstly could be that it is now very cold and bitches particularly are known not to be able to hold their wee very well in the cold,it also can be that she is excited to see you and by getting excited she then looses control of her bladder , also it could be she has a wee infection which will also make her unable to control it so well, i would check her over the next few days and see how she goes, if she does it again get her checked by the vet and take a sample of her wee with you so that they can test it and give you an imediate result, all should then go back to normal, i should have said that bronwen emailed me for the exact same thing so could be weather or laziness in the cold pat

The mother in laws springer bitch used to wee in doors when she got excited when new people came into the house and made a fuss of her. She doesn't do it now she's much older and doesn't get as excited, but it fits exactly with some of Pats comments. Also when I used to walk the dogs at Ockendon we often noted how the dogs (as opposed to bitches) seemed to have unbelievable wee holding capacity and would seem to wee forever when we got them out of the kennel.

Hi thank you for the replies. She isn't showing any signs of having a water infection, when she goes out she's weeing as normal. She only wet inside once today and once last week that's why I thought it was connected to me going out. She is very excitable though. It's like having a four year old pup at times. So I think it is probably that, but will still keep an eye on her. Thanks again Lee

Betty has weed indoor twice - both time last week and I can only put it down to the change in weather. I remember the same thing happened last year when it got cold and Pat said it could be that. It happened in the evening so I make sure I put her out more than usual and to be honest she does ask to go out more .
