Can anyone advise me how often (roughly) you need to trim their nails? I realise it depends on the surface you walk them on etc but have no idea how quickly they grow? Concerned about when to do them for the first time?
Rgds Mike

i have had prince 1 yr now and i got them done first week he arrived and then had them checked about 6 months later only his dew claws needed doing and a couple of his toes. prince walks a lot on the paths so it keeps them down. Diane

That's really helpful thanks. It gives me a rough idea. Josie walks on footpaths alot as well and she has her annual vet check due in Feb so we'll get the vet to do them then.

If you walk Josie on the pavement alot she might rarely need doing. Also you can ocassionally 'sand' them down there are some clippers that come with a battery and a small rotary sander. Trimming nails can be tricky if the claws are black.

Thanks Mark. I'll keep an eye on them. I did buy some clippers but i might not need to use them if the vet does them.

Nail should be trimmed in a week or max 2 week otherwise the nail easily gets germs and dirt which is not good for your nail health. This also leads to problems like toenail fungus and nail discoloration. So try to keep your nail properly trimmed and clean always as it’s the best prevention way to avoid such toenail issues.
But if in case you are already dealing with such toenail problem then must visit this below link. It contain all the solution regarding any kind of nail issues:
