be writing this, but tonight my little baby boy Charlie passed his KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZEN GOLD AWARD To do this Charlie has had to overcome a lot of his issues, one of his major ones being left by himself. Below are a few of the exercises we had to do in front of an examiner 1. Emergency stop either going away from hander or coming towards handler. 2. 2 Minute down stay, with approx 1 min out of sight 3. 2 Minute issolation (dog being left in a room by itself with no toys, food or bed) I am so proud of my little boy Angela

That is amazing - well done you and well done Charlie!
I've been working towards the gold with Lynx but have temporarily (note that Lynx) given up because he's soooo not interested (he's far too clever to do the work) so I really appreciate Charile's achievement.

Well done Charlie!!!How do you go about getting the good citizens awards?would love to do something like this with Baby? Thank you Sarah. We do the good citizens awards at Billericay Dog Training School, we will be starting the Bronze in October. I think they do the Bronze award at some of the larger shows, but not the silver and gold as they have to be done at training clubs. Good luck if you go ahead, and let us know how you get on. Angela x

Thank you Sue, it has been a real achievement with Charlie, as some of you will know he was a real wreck when we got him, he was even scared of his own shadow, and if he is not sure of the situation will revert back! The hardest part of the test was the isolation/2 min down stay out of sight and the emergency stop, as Charlie wants to be with somebody all the time, he does not understand the concept of being alone as this is too scarey When I first started taking Charlie training he would not go in the hall, I used to have to drag him in, and he would spend the whole lesson standing there shaking, and if anybody dared look at him or make a noise he would go into total meltdown. So I feel really proud of him. Good luck with Lynx let me know how you get on, what part are you having trouble with? Angela

You are always so encouraging and, Sarah, I would recommende doing the good citizens - I've found that it does make a difference!
Angela - nothing specific with Lynx - he's perfectly capable of everything it's just that he chooses not to! I'm concentrating on Ty for now - sounds as if he's starting from where Charlie started - he is our inspiration!

Wow, Angela That is a fantastic acheivement. Well done to you and Charlie.
I had a previous rescue dog who got the good citizen award, but have not tried with Brennan. As I can remember how you described Charlie when you first got him, I really do think you have both done wonders! FAB-U-LOUS!

Our Dillon was like Lynx - we put him in dog shows and he was so not bothered, he used to just sit with his bum to the centre of the ring and totally ignore the judges. It was a shame really as he was a really stunning dog. We took him to dog training and the same happened -turned his back on everything and sat facing the wall but when he went out on walks - it was like a total transformation - head held high, posing for people to stroke and make a fuss ........

Congratulations. It's encouraging to others, that if you're patient and put the effort in it pays off. Brilliant well done Charlie. Lee & Fizz
