In Writtle (next door to the Crematorium) is a lovely little tea room called the Secret Garden - it has a big garden and it is dog friendly. (Although they do have chickens roaming around so you have to keep your wits about you!) lol www.secretgardentearooms.co.uk/It's attached to a nice garden centre and gift shop, lots of parking and really fab people run it. If you fancy going a bit further afield, there is another tea room at Birch, Nr Abberton Reservoir. www.birchgallery.co.uk Lovely little family run tea room only open Wednesday to Sunday but really friendly and a nice green area outside (not fenced though). Fab home made cake and lovely couple run it. He is an artist and the paintings are fabulous. I think we will be trying to find lots of tea rooms in Essex this year :-) lol any old excuse to eat cake!

Well I promised extra tea rooms - this one is a bit further afield and actually in Suffolk. It's called Munchies in the High Street at Aldeburgh and a real revelation. We'd been up to Suffolk for a couple of days as I'd not been terribly well. We stayed in a dog friendly B & B (also brilliant) Fairways in Oulton Broad and decided to have a late lunch hoping to sit outside a Harvester at Lowestoft, as usual we decided to ask if ok to sit with Patrick in the outdoor seating area and were told it was against health and safety rules so no. We also asked at the Toby at Gorleston who also said no. We eventually headed towards Aldeburgh and parked in the High Street by Munchies, which had outdoor seats. I popped my head round the door to say was it ok to sit outside with Patrick and straight away the staff said "outside? nooooooooooo bring him in". What a joy - we sat inside the coffee shop (which does fab food) there was another poodle already inside and we were made to feel really welcome, not like devils with horns in many establishments. Apart from almost stealing a large sausage roll from the window display, Patrick was really well behaved and got lots of fussing. On the way home we went to the Farm Cafe at Marlesford where again, you can sit in the conservatory and eat your meals and the owner prefers dogs to children. All three places worth a visit if going up to Suffolk. Here are the links to the websites: www.fairwaysbb.co.ukwww.aldeburghmunchies.co.ukwww.farmcafe.co.uk

The little tea house in Old Leigh lets dogs inside. Very small but lovely food and friendly staff. Sitting outside is extremely pleasant as well.

Teddyedward, is that Sarah's Tea Room which is near the little gift shop? If so, yes it is nice and the food's good too. We've had breakfasts there and then got seafood to take home :-)
Incidentally, we were at Summerhill Garden Centre on Sunday and a lady who was helping on the St Luke's Hospice stand said she knew you. Small world!

The Cross Keys in Aldeburgh is a dog friendly pub. We have taken Betty in there on several occasions. Also the Lion at Theberton (not far from Thorpeness/Aldeburgh) allows dogs in. Tillys tearoom in Southwold allows dogs in their garden. We like Suffolk as they are far more dog friendly there. We've also tried Sarah's tea room in Leigh. Nicky

We've been to Tilly's it is lovely there and when it rains they have a special awning to cover the garden and heating in the winter. Not to mention their afternoon teas are spectacular ;-)
