Hi. I've had Trevor for eight months now, does'nt time rush by! And he's doing well. We are getting there slowly but surely. But all of a sudden he panicks when we use the toaster, microwave kettle infact anything that goes PING it seems! He was fine with them all until now. The only thing I can think of is when I burn things ( which is'nt that often I hassen to add)! The smoke alarm goes which may of frighen him. Any ideas you knowledgeable friends out there please.

not sure if you have done this, but did you panic when the smoke alarm went off?. if so he may of sensed it. which could be the reason. my only advise i can give you is for you to ignore his reaction so that he understands its nothing to worry about but it could take a while.
prince paniced the first time ours went off, and we now stay calm and he doesn`t bat an eye lid, he just looks at us as if to say you burning the dinner again.

hi definately go for the 'ignore it' method! also, when the microwave/toaster goes off don't immediately sorta jump up to it, because he will feed off that and think its something to worry about, don't make eye contact with him or tell him 'not to worry' otherwise that will just make him think that there is something to worry about!

Thank you all for your help. Thinking about it I probably do rush out to where the alarm is to fan the air to stop it from making a din. Will try not to burn anything for a while and hopefully he will soon snap out of it!

i will say with certain things like buses when they hiss and certain load noises when out and about if you are aware of them before trevor. try not to react or look.
