It is just a week now since Fagin joined us and he really is a good hound. Today we had to leave him for 4 hours which is the longest so far but also how long he will be left most days. When we returned he had peed on the carpet. I know not to tell him off unless I catch him doing it but is there a way to try to stop a repeat accident? In a week with us this is only the 2nd accident. I work 3 days a week so on those days he will be alone but my hubby will be home for lunch each day .

prince had 4 accidents for the first two weeks we had him, one was when we left him for 4 hrs and the others were in the middle of the night. ever since we have had no accidents. we only told him off once when he did it because we caught him, and what we was told was to clean up the mess, but never let them see you do it or they will continualy pee in that spot. but i think it will get better its sorting them out with a routine because they just pee where they want to when there in kennels, its all about them learning to hold on till they know when whey are going out. prince is taken out 5 times a day because we don`t have a garden. on fireworks night he was to frightened to go out and held on for 16 hrs bless him.

to get rid of the pee smell, go to a cleaning distributer and ask for urine neutralizer. spray on the carpet and dab the carpet with a clean cloth or sponge never scrub.

I work 3 days but husband works just round the corner so at least he gets home for lunch . I think once we get into normal routine it will be better.

Our vet gave us some deodorising spray especially for neutralising wee smells - it's good for stopping them from marking.
It took a while to get our boy Ty settled on the weeing (he wanted an ensuite loo inside!) - Greyhounds like to be clean so they soon settle into a routine once they've learnt that the loo is outside!

bicarbonate of soda does the same job at just a fraction of the price plus no nasty unidentifiable chemicals ;d ;d

Have you thought of going back to basic toilet training as you would teach a puppy. I still tell Cass pees and poos last thing of a night and make sure she goes because of fox distractions. Yvonne
