Here's the first of my 'cancer' diaries for Lou - as we're finding, the decisions we make are very individual - to the dog and to the day! I sincerely hope that your dogs never have cancer, but if they do, I hope that you find our experiences helpful - I am happy to talk to anyone who wants advice or information though I am not a vet, just a worried hu-mum who is learning new things every day! indigodream.wordpress.com/2012/07/18/dog-blog-living-with-canine-cancer-1/

I read your account in detail and I have to say I am overcome with admiration for your dedication and commitment. The phrase 'over and beyond' is totally illustrated by your actions and love for Lou. Apart from the information regarding cancer in dogs you have also shown an approach that can and should be applied to any situation, however small. I know from past experience that if you have that unconditional love to and from a greyhound you will go to the ends of the earth to have them well again. I lost my last grey to a form of meningitis but not until all possible forms of treatment had been tried. I went well over my insurance figure but that was not an issue. Dolly's health was all that mattered. I now have Ted undergoing treatment for a broken toe (nothing in comparison to Lou though) and already I am heading towards my 'financial ceiling' but once again all that matters is to get him well again so he can enjoy the life he deserves. I am sure your experiences will be both helpful and encouraging to all dog owners. Thank you so much for sharing with us.

Sue & Richard So sorry that you, and of course Lou, are having to go through all this, we feel for you all. Hope that Lou will go into remmission and enjoy quality time with you. Your article is informative, but also so sad. I know we are the other side of London, but if you need anything, like sitters for Ty and Ollie while you have to be with Lou, give us a shout. Love Sue, Tony, Rachel & Ellie XX

Sue B - thank you, that's a generous offer given that you've got your own human and canine pack to look after!
We're ok at the moment but I'll keep it in mind - you can't have too many friends at a time like this :-)

I think you are both so strong to be going through all of this with Lou, but as you say if there is a slim chance of recovery we would all do it, I like others and I am sure you will agree hope that we don't go through what you have but the notes and advice you have given will undoubtably give others more confidence if anyone has to go through this process.
We wish you all the luck in the world with Lou and hope that she has a longer life to live because of you both. Chris x

sue i think we all will say to are selves what ifs. Ive said it a few times with my previous dogs, and i think the decisions we make are not for are selfish reasons, but to love a dogs so much and to let them know we will do anything for them till they leave us. And they know even tho they cannot tell us. Lou is a fighter and wish with all my heart of a good out come.

It's so easy and natural to go into the 'what-if' mode but at the end of the day it is all about the 'now' mode. What you are doing for Lou is a reflection on your love for her and, more important, what she deserves. Everyone has their emotional limits and it is impossible to make any comparison with other similar situations. You are giving Lou life, irrespective of how short it may be now. Life allows her to be loved, to give love and have fun.

Hi Sue, that's is positive news, can understand why you are still feeling a little deflated though, you've been through so much.
With regards to homeopathy, I see mine on Tuesday, I know that she works closely with a lady who treats horses with homeopathy, I do think it's something that's still unrecognised, but if you like I can get the contact details??

That's a kind offer Andic but complementary therapy is out for now - costs too much and her insurance is blown. Thanks anyway.
